I will paint today no matter what.  Christmas preparations make it even harder for me to get to my work but I do get there.  Have to paint.  I couldn't manage it yesterday between my computer work and two important classes.  Can't miss Yoga and Line Dance.  So I will have a great Holiday attitude as I am throwing some oil paint around.  Cheers!

Life with The Bird and Word Man - Clyde Kessler

As usual Clyde is out Bird Watching.  He is still uploading records to Cornell.  It is cold out there but nothing stops him.  I am so glad he is careful about hunters this time of the year.  He is in a State Park today that does not allow hunters except on rare occasions and then the park is closed.

When Hunting Season comes around I am reminded of a Muppets skit where two hunters are bragging about what they shot.  One said, "I shot me a tractor!"  The other one said, "Well, I got me a dump truck!"  Love those skits!  No offense to hunters!

I awoke to the sound of my son screaming in the kitchen.  He had dropped a large glass jug of apple juice on the floor and began to clean it up.  When I got there he had apple juice foot prints in the rug in the living room. 

He got up all the glass without a scratch but didn't clean the mop out so he had mostly pushed the apple juice around the floor.  I showed him how to get the mop clean so he could finish the job. 

Then I cut myself on my plastic capuchino jar.  Didn't think that was possible, but it was.  I have so much to do and I am determined to paint so I had better get going!

Life with The Bird and Word Man - Clyde Kessler

I just got off the phone with my brother who has a doctorate in computer science and does computer contracting out of his home.  Clyde works on a computer all day and knows a lot more about this machine than me.  I sit in front of it and sometimes think I could get a turtle to walk across the keys and get things done faster.

I am Computer LD.  Once I figure something out I have got it, but it takes a while.  Of course, then things change and I am lost once again.  Now I am trying to figure out why my instragram icon on my phone keeps taking me to a message screen and then I can't change it.  I'll figure it out just in time to update it and get lost again.  Cheers!

From now one when I go on a trip and am staying where I am promised Wifi service I am going to plan on not getting much done.  Either we live under a bad computer star or that promise is always false!

I try to cut back on computer stuff when I am away but I don't like it when I am cut off.  Oh well, as one of my friends said years ago, "What is the use of complaining?"  Some one will always complain louder.  Cheers!

Einstein was right.  Everything is relatives.  I love my relatives but we all have some that we just don't jive well with.  We just got back from a visit and I was a bit bothered by a few verbal jabs I received there.  Funny thing, on the way home at one of our stops I saw a book with this title.  People Can't Drive you Crazy if you don't give them the Keys.  I got to stop giving that one the keys!

The other day right after painting I noticed a purple patch between one of my knuckles on the left hand.  I knew right away that it wasn't paint.  It was sore to the touch.  I do not remember doing anything to cause a bruise so I said to Clyde that maybe I smacked him in my sleep with the back of my hand.  His immediate response was  sure, that is why I sleep so well.  Joker!

Hanging Beauty is an intense oil pastel painting of flowers on our veranda. The strong light effect creates a beautiful atmosphere and great warm/cool color contrast. My husband, Clyde Kessler, is a well-known naturalist in the New River Valley and in addition to his bird and butterfly knowledge, he is also very knowledgeable about flowers and good at growing them. He has the green thumb in the family. Mine is usually covered in oil paint.

Rose Start is a glowing oil pastel of our rose bush when it was first starting out. We have a small white fence around it to protect it. I have always been fascinated with the look of white objects in the evening. They seem to glow from with-in and I captured that look in this work. Carnival Evening by Henri Rousseau is a great example of this effect. I especially enjoy looking at that painting for the use of the white that creates a magical effect.

Like any married couple we have learned a lot about our different backgrounds over the years.  One thing my mother did that Clyde's mother did not do was repeat helpful sayings.  I heard these so many times that they got to be quite irritating and the most irritating thing was I was too stubborn to apply them to my life.   

The one I hate the most to this day is Penny wise and Pound foolish.   I am amazed at the number of times I have chosen the cheap route that ended up costing me more later.  I actually make Clyde come with me to the store to help me buy certain items so I won't get stuck with the cheap one that caught my eye.  He always gets the better item, usually the medium priced one.

Anyway I like to change some of those sayings and the other night when I was fooling with laundry late in the evening I said to Clyde, "Women's work is never done and it ain't no fun."  I think that is an improvement on that one.

This time of the year my husband spends a lot of time watching migrating hawks from Rocky Knob on The Blue Ridge Parkway and in our backyard.  What he doesn't want to hear is me screaming at the computer.   I do get quite frustrated with this machine that has a mind of its own. 

Yesterday I attempted to load another Youtube about my Floral paintings.  The graph said it was 81% complete and there were only fifteen minutes remaining.  An hour later there were still fifteen minutes remaining.  Argh!  I will try again today!

Here are two more skater paintings from the Dominion Skating Rink that was a great place for all ages in Christiansburg, VA.  I especially liked watching the kids play trios!  They had to skate hooked up and then turn around whenever the announcer said skate in the opposite direction!

Yesterday I was talking to my husband about shingles as we were reminded by the TV for the umpteenth time to get the vaccine.  I was surprised that he hadn't gotten one yet.  I got mine a year ago and now I have to remember to get one every seven years.  I have heard how awful shingles are so I do want to prevent an outbreak.

My husband wasn't concerned.  He has a lot of pain in various parts of his body due to two different falls.  His response was why should he get a shingles shot.  The shingles would be just one more pain to deal with.  Take a number!

I'm not much for nagging but I think I will try to get him to get the shot.
