Facebook can be a lot of fun!  Sometimes there are great jokes that I share with people and I post my work there, too.  Lots of great compliments!  The other day I saw something that I thought was especially funny and clever.

A beautiful, well-endowed girl sent me a friendship request.  She had a number of faintly colored letters across her chest.  I had to look close and then I realized I was looking at part of the standard eye chart.

Clyde said that was one eye chart guys would definitely check out!

I try so hard to work on computer stuff that will help me out of all the extra work that I would rather not do, but, as usual the computer is fighting me.  I followed the directions to the letter to add a list on Twitter so I can add people to the list and cut down on all this retweeting.  The list is not there after three attempts.   My computer is up to date.  I just added the latest update and still the computer hates me.  Aarghhhh!!!!!!

Almost done with this portrait.  Still some work to do on the hands and the colors.  Real pleased with it so far!

Clyde and I work hard at our art.  I paint every day and he writes every day.  I intend to keep on as long as possible.  I hope I will die with a paint brush in my hand.

The other day I saw a wonderful quote.  A famous opera singer in his nineties was asked why he was still singing.  He said because he was making progress!  Yes!!!!!

People are always talking about how awful Mondays are but since I am such a workaholic one day is pretty much the same as the next.  Well, today I am making an exception.  I have been having some trouble with a sore knee and I have had to get up at night and take aspirin the last two nights so I definitely do not like this Monday. 

My son always says Mondays and Tuesdays are rough on him.  Today I agreed with him. 

Oh well, lots to do and I hope my knee doesn't act up again.

Clyde is one of most non-materialistic people I have ever known.  He doesn't care about clothes and all his possessions have to do with his research on wildlife and his writing.  He firmly believes the old saying, "The more you own, the more it owns you."  He would like to win the lottery so he wouldn't have to work and so he could fund all his environmental projects.

I asked him what he would do if he won millions of dollars.  His curmudgeon response was he would buy a few acres, put a trailer on it, and hide from the world.

I can just see him setting up operations from a trailer!  Binoculars in one hand and a computer mouse in the other.  I truly believe he could solve many of our environmental problems and he could do it without harming industry. Yes, he is that smart.

Dreamscapes

 

About a decade ago I began having dreams in my sleep of paintings I had never seen before. They look like mine but are less distinct and seem to wave. They also have less contrast and a lot more blue than my other work. A few years ago I decided to try to put some of these on canvas.

I rarely have those dreams now but when I do the paintings are by someone else in the dream. How strange that I would invent paintings for other people in my sleep!

I especially like the flowing motion in this painting.  The flowers and leaves move around the space much in the same way that the lines and colors in the cloth do.  It is a feast of color!

This morning when my husband called me to get me up I was so tired that we had a strange conversation.  We can't get certain organic items here so once a week he picks up some things at a store where he works. 

I know you want tomatoes but what about cabbage?

We still have some from last week.

I didn't see any.  Where is it?

In the refrigerator. 

The refrigerator?  I never thought to look there.

Ha ha!  Wow am I tired.  Maybe I put it in the dryer.

Okay and I'll check my sock drawer.  It must be around there somewhere.

Do you think he might have been a little sarcastic?

I have two sisters and they have let me make portraits of them which is something artists often do.  Models are expensive and it is a great experience to paint family members.  

 

This first one is of Nan when she was ten with the only dog she had growing up.  My mother decided I needed a dog and we got this adorable poodle that we all loved.  We liked to let the hair grow out rather then trim it. 

Beau was a very sweet dog and Nan was devoted to him.

Nan was quite athletic and became a Ice Skating instructor.  I love to tell people that since it certainly isn't a run of the mill occupation.  She excels at skating and teaching the sport.

I am glad I was able to paint her as a child and adult.  She is an interesting subject and I am especially pleased with the expressive look in her eyes in this portrait.

My new painting is coming along but I think it is going into the arm wrestling stage.  I guess if they didn't start out well I would never pick up a brush. 

I love to paint but it is always a battle!

Here are two more paintings of Alan's friends.  Samantha is a little older than Alan but she was very nice to him.  She was one of the first neighbors to talk to him from the fence that bordered both our homes.

This time of the year my husband spends a lot of time watching migrating hawks from Rocky Knob on The Blue Ridge Parkway and in our backyard.  What he doesn't want to hear is me screaming at the computer.   I do get quite frustrated with this machine that has a mind of its own. 

Yesterday I attempted to load another Youtube about my Floral paintings.  The graph said it was 81% complete and there were only fifteen minutes remaining.  An hour later there were still fifteen minutes remaining.  Argh!  I will try again today!
