We are all glad to see the water go back to the New River! We certainly got by with minimal flooding. I am glad that I am all paid up on my Home Owners Insurance. Funny thing. Well, not that funny but definitely an age thing. I accidentally paid it twice and when I was going over my statement I discovered the error. I realize that last statement is strange to a lot of people, if not most people.
I know I can bank online but all this online stuff makes me nervous. I just don't think it is safe. I was rather surprised that the company cashed both checks. I called about it and the local representative said my computer listing has a refund. Why couldn't they just send back one of the checks? Anyway, I need to be more careful but I am glad it has been a very long time since I made that sort of error. One time I put the amount for my credit card bill on the check for my phone bill. Of course, they issued me a refund.
I know I am not alone in saying this age thing is not fun. I just keep on thinking of the lady in her nineties that performs on a balance beam! Yes, we can keep going for a long time!

I look forward to watching Star Trek reruns with Clyde. They are on the hour before he goes to bed and I can usually goad him into saying something I can use here.
If Star Trek has 400 crew members, how come we only see a few in the bridge and the captain and senior officers only take a few crewmen with red shirts that usually get killed. Where are the others?

We waited for some torrential rains but it looks like it did not happen here. Roanoke had some severe flooding but we just got wet. The people on the coast did not have to evacuate their homes but North Carolina sure got pummeled. Love the beach but definitely do not want to live there!
I made a mistake in my last blog on the Specials. They ended Thursday, not Friday. Senior moment. I looked up a chart that compares Alzheimers symptoms with regular old age symptoms and so far I am still on the right side of the chart. I am reading at night to try keep my mind together and I know playing the piano helps. I really need to get back to reading Spanish novels. You have to stay sharp to keep up a foreign language. I have forgotten some words and some grammar so I had better get back to it before I can only say hola. Our library has next to nothing in Spanish. I guess I need to see what I can get on Interlibrary loan.
Anyway, I am hanging in there and painting away! Here is the final stage of Pawleys Island Atmosphere!

Last time I wrote about the different times that Clyde and I go to bed due to our schedules. He is in bed at 9 so he can get up at 4. I stay up to 11:30 and get up at 7:30. Funny thing. Every night at 9 I have an overwhelming desire to go to sleep and then I start to wake up .
I told Clyde that the reason my body wants to go to sleep at 9 is because we are soul mates. He gagged and said we were more like a ship wreck without a ship.
Ha ha! I love to goad him. Wait, did he really say our marriage is like a ship wreck? Oh well. I asked for it. LOL!

I am so pleased to be back to working with a brush! I have been spending a long time working on a portrait of my son and his girlfriend in pastels. I love pastels because it is such a direct medium and the texture is like nothing else, but they do take a long time to build up.
I am pleased so far and will begin the final stage soon but right now I want to work with a brush. I have a lot of ideas for more oil paintings of The Peaks of Otter that I want to get to right after I complete the second stage of Paris Joy!

I am so proud of Clyde! He has lost twelve pounds and has about eight to go. As I have said before, a well-balanced diet plus calorie counting is the best way to lose weight and maintain weight loss.
No, you can't eat huge slabs of pie or eat mounds of french fries unless you work it off the way our ancestors did every day with farm work or similar exercise.
But you can have things you like to eat. He has no complaints and when he loses all the weight he can up his calorie count to a maintenance number.
We were talking about all the other awful ways of losing weight, including Weight Watchers which is actually a great program but who wants to attend meetings?
Clyde said you can't be a Weight Watchers Anonymous like Alcoholics Anonymous. Everybody knows.
Your gut will not set you free!

I am determined to get out today and go to the lake. I just wish it were a lot hotter. I'm sure that water is like ice water with all this cool weather. I will get in. I have learned to take a very cold shower with my bathing suit on and then the water is not such a shock to the system.
My guys are at work so I will go alone. That's okay. I have never had much of a problem being alone. I think artists tend to be that way so they can be crazy without people mentioning it all the time.
I'm a happy wacko and I don't need to be straightened out.

Now that Clyde and I have been married for about 100 years I am starting to worry about his longevity. I can't imagine life without The Word and Bird Man.
No marriage is perfect and there are times I want to set fire to all his stuff in the Computer room but we do get along real well and I hope we die together.
When I was a kid I liked to read Greek myths and there was one about a woman being granted one wish and she wished she and her husband would die together. I thought that was a great wish.
I told Clyde that he had to last as long as me because I didn't want anyone else.
He replied, "Why, do you think you will do worse? Did I set the bar that low?
Now that was a fun retort. He keeps me laughing!

Fourth
day of the new year and we are working on an insurance claim for our
wind damaged roof. Our heating system was making a funny noise last
night. I hope we won't be calling about that.
The noise happened a
while back and I called for help and, of course, there was no noise when
the repairman arrived, just the aggravation of paying him to come and
check so this time I am waiting for it to actually break before I call.
Here's hoping that does not happen. The roof problem is enough!

Insurance
is always a hit or miss thing as we all know. We are in the process of
trying to get our Homeowners Insurance to pay for the wind damage on
our roof. The roof needs to be replaced. I hope we can get them to
come through after all these years of paying them but I have a feeling
they will claim it is just wear and tear over the years.
Clyde
had a great comment on this situation. They will probably claim they
have proof we are squatters and don't even own the home. Love it! Just
a joke. No offense to insurance agents.

Second
day of the new year and there is a puddle in my studio. Yikes! A roof
repair man came over and informed us that our roof shingles are 20 year
shingles so we have been living on borrowed time.
Time to fork out the
big bucks for a new roof. Not the way I wanted to start 2017, but
that's life. Cheers! I am going to have to say that a bunch of times
to myself. Drip, drip, drip.

Painting
can be such an aggravating experience. What I want and what I get are
not always the same thing. Actually, as I told my students, you never
get exactly what you want, but if you work hard you will get close.
I may have mentioned before something a teacher said to me that I think about a lot.
Scraping
off paint is a good thing. It means you are learning something. The
other day I asked Clyde what was the most important thing an artist
learns when she scrapes paint off. He replied, not to bang your head
against the wall? No. The very high cost of paint.
Here's to a
new year and hopefully some great sales. I live to paint but I can't
take them with me and oil paint is very expensive.

I
mostly count on Clyde to come up with something funny that I like to
post here, and that happens quite often. He is not always happy about
how I quote him and the other day he said he can't make jokes anymore, I
am worse than a reporter. Of course, that comment had me running to
the computer.
He just can't win. I am always there looking for some funny to grab! Is that marriage or what?
I
called Clyde to see if he thought what I wrote today was funny. He
liked it. I said you never know. Charlie Chaplin wrote about how
sometimes his movies would crack up one audience and then get hardly a
snicker from another one.
Clyde replied that maybe some audiences are sober and others are not.

I
have been talking a lot about Yoga to Clyde. It has helped me a lot
and he thinks he will probably start taking lessons to see if it could
help his hip injury.
I have only been taking lessons for a year
but I realize more and more that I have been doing some Yoga for a long
time. Ever since my Mom made us kids clean the bathrooms I have been
doing Downward Facing Grunge. I didn't scrub floors until after I was
married and that is when I started Table Top Scrape. That one is also
good for the bathroom. I sort of do Legs up the wall when I can't reach
something under the bed with my hands, but it is Legs Straight in
Front.
Love Yoga! The Yoga we do in class and Household Yoga! Got to keep moving and stretching!

I can't believe the mistake I a few days ago. I was using the
reverse image search and it was taking a long time when I noticed a sign
that said to download so the searches will be faster.
Now a
search engine that is called Search has taken over and we are pretty
sure it is an awful virus so I am typing away on a laptop. A friend is
going to help us out tomorrow with our computer.
I know better than to click on that sort of thing! Oh well. Live and learn or is it learn and then forget the lesson.

Many
years ago when we moved into our house Clyde planted apple trees,
cherry trees, and a peach tree that died after one great harvest.
It
has been great having organic fruit and I have made a lot of pies. Now
Clyde can't eat apples or cherries and Alan only likes juice.
This
year we are covered up in apples and since we don't spray them they
have a lot of bad spots so I don't give them away. I just try to eat as
many as I can. They taste great!
The wild life problem has
gotten very bad with ground hogs roaming all over the yard and birds
pecking away. Clyde said the ground hogs are not just eating off the
ground, now they are climbing the trees.
He said if I wanted apples I may have to wrestle a ground hog and swat a lot of birds before I get any.
I'll let Clyde get the apples.
