Such a beautiful day!  We were going to the lake but that isn't possible today so we are heading there tomorrow!  I love it when my guys come with me!  Not sure if there are any life guards at this time of the year but we just don't swim in the deep water.  Now that I have pretty much sworn off swimming in the ocean due to all the shark attacks the lake is very important to me!  Pools are great but swimming in natural water is much more fun!

 Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler

 

Since Clyde and I don't have a daughter we have never had to worry about boyfriends.  I'm sure that is a difficult phase of a parent's life.  I know of one family that just didn't allow dating at all.

Anyway I had to tell Clyde of the best advice a father ever gave his daughter's boyfriend when she started dating him.  This was on my favorite family show, "The Middle".  The father looked at him and said, "You do know I work in a quarry?"  The boy said yes and the father said,"With dynamite."

Talk about the strongest warning ever!  Love it!

 Apple a Day is another sensuous, colorful painting from my series,
Suggestions. I am starting with an abstract expressionist surface and then looking for forms that appear in the paint. This time an apple shape began to appear so I made it into a very lively still life. I am especially pleased with the brushwork in this one.

I love all the arts and if I had a bunch of lives I would seriously pursue every one of them!  I live to paint but I also play the piano and line dance.

I have the greatest respect for artists and I hate it when people won't hire an artist when they need one.  I am talking about commercials that have the people that are advertising act out skits to sell.  That really gets on my nerves.  I can't get to the mute button fast enough.

Locally, there are two businessmen that put on skits on commercials that are horrible!  They make me appreciate actors and all they go through to master their craft.

They are so bad that I honestly think I could do a better job and I have never had an acting lesson.

Clyde says two squirrels from out back yard could audition for the commercial and do better even if they were hired to play themselves.

I am so excited about my latest Blue Ridge Parkway painting!  It is coming along and , as always, I am learning something in the process.  As I have mentioned before, most artists balance between control and accident.  We know pretty much what we are doing but we are always improving in our technique and working with colors and textures that show up in the process that we weren't expecting.

I don't know if this is an artist's quote but I like to think I came up with this one.

If I knew exactly what I was doing, I wouldn't do it.  It would be boring. 

I live to paint because it is NEVER boring!

We hope that our introductions to bird life of the Blue Ridge will inspire personal efforts to become more familiar with the creatures in their own backyards and beyond.

Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler

Yesterday we had a young friend help us out with our new TV problem.  Our provider sent us a letter stating that we had to add some sort of transformer box to all our sets or lose channels.  As usual, the instructions didn't make any sense to us so we needed to call in the reserves.

It turns out that after the box installation we need to use two remotes to turn on the sets!  The old one is used to turn it on and off and the new remote is used to change channels.  If that order is not used the set is scramble and does not work.

We put labels on the remotes and guess what?  I picked up the wrong one, the one that we used to use to change channels and the TV died right before my eyes.  Clyde does not remember what our friend said to do to restore the set so we will have to call him.

I also had him help me with my software that is supposed to help me with Twitter retweets.  I had missed one simple step and was so glad that was fixed.  Well, it still isn't working.  I hate being so technologically challenged. 

Clyde says we are technologically not even there, let alone challenged. He says if TV and phones get anymore complicated we will probably be using smoke signals and throwing rocks.  If the smoke signals don't work we can throw rocks to get attention.  LOL!

There was a day when a set was turned on and the dial changed the channels.  What was wrong with that? I only want a few channels.  The digital takeover forced us to get cable because we lost PBS.

Another gorgeous mountain vista off The Blue Ridge Parkway is Buffalo mountain.  The name comes from the strong hump on the ridge.  Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church was built by the Reverent Robert Childress who was the subject for the book "The Man Who Moved a Mountain"  This is a great book that I highly recommend!

Buffalo Mountain in Fall is one of my favorite Blue Ridge Mountain landscapes.  The colors of light and shade in fall are especially beautiful.  The violet is  intense and it is difficult to paint the atmospheric effect and not lose the cool colors in the warm colors.  They look as if they are floating together in space.

When Pigs Fly by my Window

I am a workaholic.  It is extremely important to me to sell my work.  I can't take them with me and I hope they will all have homes when I am gone.  I depend on friends to get me out once in a while, but mostly I am either painting or working at promotion strategies.

Saturday I told my self I ought to try to take a break and rest.  Right as that thought was going through my head a pig flew by my window and winked!   Of course, I didn't take it easy but I did get a lot of work done!
