Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler

 

I like to wear skirts.  When we were first married I wore them a lot and then for some reason I just started wearing pants most of the time.  Recently I found the greatest skirt!  It is a pull on so it isn't binding no matter how much I eat.   I hate the way pants bind in the waist.  It is so uncomfortable.

I am definitely going to look for more of these easy wear, easy care skirts.  I told Clyde he should get back to the dress of one of his ancestral groups,  the Scottish, and wear a kilt for comfort.  He said he would wear a kilt when Noah's Ark lands in Radford.  Lots of rain out there today but I don't think he will be wearing one anytime soon. LOL!

Where is that Time Fairy?  My days are getting shorter and shorter and it has nothing to do with the sun.  I have so much to do each day that it is mind boggling.  We are all always saying we wish someone could add hours to the day.  I wonder, if someone could actually add hours to the day, would we gripe even louder?  Probably.  Cheers!  Got to move on to the next task!

Clyde works in Government Documents at a library so he is up on all the latest docs and also keeps track of various books he would like to order.  Today he is ordering Advanced Fossil Fuels and their effect on the Environment.  That may not be the exact title and I don't want to call him again right now, so we will go with that.

He said sometimes he feels like an advanced fossil.  Me, too.

Now if I could just find the loose hair that is tickling my arm I will be a happy fossil!

When I was a kid I would have been shot into the middle of next week if I had food in my room.  That was against the law and violators were prosecuted. 

Well, as usual I have been griping about the ant problem in the kitchen but fortunately Clyde killed a number of nests so they aren't there right now.  There is a huge army in our bedroom where I bring snacks.  I only have myself to blame for this one. 

Mommy told me not to do it but I dooed it anyway!

For various reasons we have been going to a lot of fast food joints lately.  I like fast food but prefer Chinese.  We go to those restaurants a lot, too.

One of the fast food restaurants has the motto that people should eat like they mean it.  I see that commercial all the time.

When we go there we always comment that we have to use a lot of napkins because the sandwiches are quite slippery.  It is hard to keep the condiments in the sandwich.

I came up  with a new slogan.  Eat like you want it to fall in your  lap!  Just joking around!  Great sandwiches!

Suggestions. I am starting with an abstract expressionist surface and then looking for forms that appear in the paint. This time an apple shape began to appear so I made it into a very lively still life. I am especially pleased with the brushwork in this one.

I love all the arts and if I had a bunch of lives I would seriously pursue every one of them!  I live to paint but I also play the piano and line dance.

I have the greatest respect for artists and I hate it when people won't hire an artist when they need one.  I am talking about commercials that have the people that are advertising act out skits to sell.  That really gets on my nerves.  I can't get to the mute button fast enough.

Locally, there are two businessmen that put on skits on commercials that are horrible!  They make me appreciate actors and all they go through to master their craft.

They are so bad that I honestly think I could do a better job and I have never had an acting lesson.

Clyde says two squirrels from out back yard could audition for the commercial and do better even if they were hired to play themselves.

I am still finding great Blue Ridge myths and legends of the Cherokee people!   Such wonderful, magical stories!  I was pleased that my husband was not familiar with the one I posted yesterday about the chickadee!  I actually taught The Bird Man something! 

The Origin of Game and Corn

Long ago shortly after the world was made there lived a hunter and his family on Looking Glass Mountain in North Carolina.  The Blue Ridge Parkway can be seen from Looking Glass Rock.  They had one son named Good boy. His brother came out of the water where the first boy played.  They kept him and named him Wild Boy.  They knew he had magic powers.  The father always brought home much game for the family.  They always had enough to eat.

One day Wild Boy transformed himself into a puff of bird down on the father's shoulder  and followed him to a rock.  The father moved the rock and  deer came out and he killed one to bring home.

The next day the boys went to the rock and got game but forgot to put the rock back.  The father punished them and told them now they would have to hunt for game.

The hungry boys went home and asked their mother for something to eat and she went to the storeroom for corn.  The boys watched her rub her belly to fill a pot with corn and rub her legs to fill one with beans.

They decided she was a witch and she told them that when she died they were to clear the land around the home and they would always have corn.  They didn't follow her instructions carefully so that is why corn does not grow in all parts of the world.

As I mentioned before my husband is not able to eat many things most people have no problem with.  The tomato  is one of them but he can eat a small portion if it is cooked such as in spaghetti sauce.  I think I am becoming somewhat sensitive to tomatoes and now after spaghetti I feel like I am going to pop!

I told Clyde we needed to go on a Pasta Buster walk and he said that sounds like a rock song.  "Get outside and bust that pasta before they have to roll you out the door!"  Get outside and bust that pasta!  You know you don't need anymore!

I know the lyrics aren't much so far but maybe we will come up with more the next spaghetti night.
