Very excited about my new figure painting in acrylics! I am using more layers than I usually use in each stage so I can properly build up the figure's form. As I told my students, ad nauseam, anyone can draw a figure. To get it right is the mark of an artist.
Most people don't realize how much time artists spend learning the human form in drawing classes. It is quite a discipline as we go through mountains of newsprint to get it right. Since I am using more layers I am learning some things about acrylics I didn't know before this painting.
Oils is my main medium and I am usually more spontaneous with acrylics. Should be interesting to see how this one turns out!

The other day someone was talking on TV about how home doesn't have to be one place. There can be many places that people can call home.
I brought up the saying I had always heard.
Home is where you hang your hat.
Clyde said home is where you can still unlock the door because the lock hasn't been changed.
Well, I don't think I will change the lock on him.
At least I don't think I will. Probably not today.

I am back to the figure which is a particular love for artists. We don't draw and paint nudes to be provocative. We just love the beauty of the human form and all the expressions that different poses give us.
I am working on an expressive painting of a woman's back as she is turning slightly to her right. There will be many layers as I build up the form and add colorful brushwork.
I was pleased with the first stage so I added it to my portfolio for prints. Here it is!

I am still going to Yoga twice a week and I have a short practice at home the days I don't have Yoga. Yoga does fantastic things for the body and I still hate it. I want Clyde to take it when his schedule allows him to so I should keep my mouth shut about how I hate it.
Anyway, yesterday I told him one of the teacher always suggests some alternative moves to the ones she is demonstrating and she says whatever feels good.
Well, there are stairs over there and the front door at the end of them. I think it would feel real good to walk down those stairs and go right out that door. Of course, I keep my mouth shut in class. I just keep forgetting to keep my mouth shut at home.
Don't misunderstand. Yoga is a great way to keep the body going and I will keep at it. I don't have to like it.

Running around in circles today. So much to do! I still have some Christmas shopping to do and Yoga class and Line Dancing class are today. I will be playing the piano this Sunday for church so I have to go over and get used to an electric piano with action that is three times slower than my great Jesse French and sons upright.
Also, the paint on the third layer of my latest commission is about dry so I hope to get to that today, too. I hope all the people in Dallas that keep looking at my favorite beach painting, Rehoboth Beach houses are planning to buy a print. I sold that one years ago to a VA patron. It is a very popular one for prints.
Anyway, time to run out the door!

Computers, computers, computers. One screwy thing after another. I have learned a lot but if I were not marketing artwork on the net I would probably be the next thing to computer illiterate. Now my Gmail will not come in. It has not been in since last night which was very frustrating because I am communicating with a patron that is looking into buying Autumn Pond.
Fortunately there are great people to help. I asked some other artists and one said try a different browser. I did and now I can get into my gmail. I just looked up the term computer illiterate and had to laugh big time at the actual meaning. It refers to people that can't get the hang of a computer no matter how much you help them.
Ok, I may not have a doctorate in Computer Science like my brother but if I didn't know anything about computers I am sure I could learn. I think that term should just refer to ignorance of computers not complete lack of ability to use them.

I have often said that it is a good thing that all the side effects of drugs are listed on commercials but now I am not so sure it is the best approach to educating the public.
The list is so long that more and more people might think they should not get immunizations since they can have side effects, too. I do not want to see polio or whooping cough come back.
Anyway, the other night there was a commercial that listed the most common sides effects of the drug that was advertised.
Clyde chimed in with, "The most common side effect is a coffin delivered right to your door that costs a whole lot more than this drug."
Enough said. Lol!

I am getting it together today! No appointments, no workers at my
house, and no bills to pay. Wait a minute. I haven't paid any of the
bills. Oh well, always busy is better than nothing to do. Now to get
to everything.

Yes!
Our third lawn mowing contact showed up and did a great job! He had to
take down part of the fence to get his huge mower into our back yard
but he put it right back up. Finally! I am no longer scared that I
will be attacked by deer ticks if I walk in my yard and Big Foot is no
where in sight! He can't hide behind our grass now.
On to more
crazy stuff from the Word Man. Last night we were talking about bumper
stickers. Neither one of us uses them. Not sure why. We just don't,
but I do like to read funny ones. The word bumper prompted some word
play from Clyde. What do you call a lazy, no-good cat? A bumpurr.

Well,
I am finally ready to finish this blog and send it out. So many things
to do today that it got lost in the shuffle. I am pleased to present
the second stage of my latest New River painting! Prints are not
available just yet but I wanted to show it. I am pleased with this
stage and will probably not change it much in the final version.

A
while back I talked about our awful mouse that kept clicking off and
ate batteries like they were made of cheese. Then Clyde bought a great
mouse that I named Zippy, the wonder mouse! It zooms all over the
screen, hardly ever needs a battery and still works like new! Yesterday
we spent most of the day, with help, setting up a new computer,
printer, and scanner.
The Radford Public Library can breath a
sigh of relief. I won't be getting prints there anymore and complaining
about how dark they are. I told one of the clerks and she probably
told the others so they could do a celebration dance. Just kidding!
Well, who knows?
Anyway, the new stuff is great, except for the
mouse. It is slow, awkward, and I just don't like it so I turned it off
and turned Zippy back on. Great to have an excellent little rodent! If
Zippy ever acts up we will get Zippy 2!
