So Glad to be Back and You are Big....

Been down with a bad back spasm the last few days.  I am such a workalcoholic that I get so tired my back goes out.  It doesn't happen because I didn't bend my knees when I picked up something heavy. or when I accidentally fall, or if I reach higher than I should.  It just goes out.  I get to the point when I am really working hard and proud of my accomplishments and then, I guess my body says, Vacation time!  I was getting ready to go to bed and as I pulled up my pajama bottoms -Yikes!  Out for two days.  Oh well.  I'm back and trying not to work so hard but that is like asking time to stand still.  Not going to happen.

The other day I was delivering a Christmas package to my neighbor who is single and lives with her toy poodle named Yogi.  Her sister was visiting her.  Yogi looked to me like he had really porked out and I almost said, Yogi, you are so fat but I caught myself after a long pause and said big!  The neighbor's sister cracked up.  Did you hear that long pause before she almost said fat?  Sometimes the insults just come out no matter what you do.  The dog is like the neighbor's child so I hope I am not in the dog house.

Painting Away and The Enabler

I am, as always, working very hard at my paintings.  Soon, I will have to take a break and get ready to be on The Hour of Joy which will be taped January 26th.  I am apprehensive about appearing on TV but I think it will be a great opportunity to attract more patrons to my work.  All I want to do is paint but I have to do other thing to promote it or I can't find homes for them.  I am real excited about my current small painting.  I think it is one of the most sensitive paintings I have ever done.  I look forward to uploading it when it is dry.

I like to sort laundry in our bedroom while my husband is watching TV.  When I get to his stuff I gently throw it at him and usually cover his face.  It is a fun game we play.  I told him that I must really be an aggressive bully to throw underwear at my husband.  His reply was, what about me?

I must be a shameful enabler to let you do it.  It obviously doesn't take a lot to entertain us.

Pleased to sell another print of Burning Shore and It isn't funny...

I am so pleased to sell another print of one of my favorite paintings to a great patron in Mobile, Alabama!  The painting is owned by a New York patron and I miss it.  It was one of my Small Gem paintings and was 5"x7".  It is great that patrons can get a huge print of this beautiful painting.  It is one of my most expressive works.

I can't think of anything funny right now.  It is hard to joke around after tragedies.  Humor is one of life's joys that keeps me going but I can't help but be quite sad right now.  My son is no longer in school but if I had gotten a call that he was killed at school I'm not sure I would be here right now.

I am looking forward to being on The Hour of Joy on April 3rd!  It will be great to have my paintings on TV.  I love what I do and will be thrilled to talk about my work to such a large audience.

So far on The Mindy Project my best-selling print "Reaching Out" has been seen on the2d, 4th, 5th, and 8th episodes!  It is great to watch a show and see my work there!

Pleased to sell another original painting and An apple a day...

I am so pleased to sell another original painting!  This one was a favorite floral called "Color Flow".  A very nice young man drove down from Washington and Lee University to buy it for his girlfriend for Christmas.  They are both about to graduate and plan to be corporate lawyers.  I wish them well!  Paintings can be the greatest gift.  They only go up in value and it is a gift from the heart and soul of someone who lives to paint.  I only wish I didn't always have dirty dishes in my future.  Not to mention dirty laundry and dirty house.  I still get to paint because I am nothing if not organized.  I have my faults, but I am determined to paint and nothing stops me.

The other day I mentioned to my fructose intolerant husband that I usually eat an apple a day so I guess I keep the doctor away.  His response was if he ate an apple a day the doctor would be here all the time taking all his money.  What kind of crazy diet asks people to give up most vegetable and fruits?  Fructose intolerance is a mean trip.

Sold another large canvas print and They took my house...

I am so pleased to sell another print of one of my most popular works of art, "Natural Rhythm".  This is my first sale in Arizona so now I have originals and prints in 20 states, Washington D.C., Canada, Germany, and Australia.  My work marches on!  As I have said before, I want to cover the world and die with a paint brush in my hand.

Looking forward to my TV appearance on The Hour of Joy this spring with Joy Sutton who wants to be the next Oprah.  Such an energetic lady!  I have no doubt she will succeed and I am honored to be on her show.

It is still great fun for me to see my most popular drawing, "Reaching Out", on The Mindy Project on Tuesday nights at 9:30 on Fox TV.  So far there have been a lot of shots on it on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th episodes.  I hope to see it this Tuesday.

I usually look to my husband for something funny but this one is on me.  I have a new spin on all those commercials that claim you can get a lot of money and keep your car.

I got the money I needed and they didn't take my car!  This is great!  Since they took my house, I am now living in it!  Zoom, zoom!

Deciding on Paintings for my TV appearance and I don't like staples...

Still very excited about being on TV for the first time!  I hope I don't stutter or knock one of my paintings off of an easel.  I have decided I should take two paintings of the region and one shore scene.  I paint people, places, and things but I concentrate on the beautiful Appalachian mountains and eastern shore scenes.  They are my two favorite subjects and I never tire of them.  The show is The Hour of Joy on My19 out of Roanoke and the host is Joy Sutton who wants to be the next Oprah.

The other day I was complaining to my husband that I might have to get more money out of the bank for weekly expenditures.  I know it is silly, but I don't use ATMs.  I use a check once a week for cash.  I just prefer to have the record of what we use.  This week the car and the doctor took more then usual and I wasn't sure I could get the groceries without getting more out of the bank.  Since I had two group dinner invitations my husband said the grocery bill probably would be pretty low this week.  I told him he would be amazed how much our staples cost.  Of course, he couldn't resist saying he didn't want to eat staples.  When you marry a writer, you really do get punned to death!

Looking forward to my TV appearance and If I used pillows...

I am still excited about my TV appearance on My19 out of Roanoke VA this spring!  I am so pleased Joy Sutton asked me to be on her show,"The Hour of Joy" and the tentative date is April 3rd.  The show will be taped January 26th in front of a live audience.  I guess 20 years in front of college students will help me get through this.  My problem, as usual, is I should get ready for this early and pick out the paintings I will bring, but, as always,  I am more concerned with painting.  I have 3 small ones right now that I am achieving certain color and texture effects that I have never achieved before!  Painting is such a fantastic experience!  I will be sure to bring that up on the show.

The other day I was complaining to my nurse friend that sometimes I wake up with soreness in my hip at the ball joint.  I was wondering if my mattress is to blame and she said it could just be age.  Now no one wants to hear that!  She said I could try putting pillows under my legs to alleviate the pressure.  I am such a restless sleeper that I doubt that would help.  When I mentioned that to my husband he said I would have the pillows down his throat before the night is over.  I don't doubt that one bit!

Enjoyed Meeting Talk Show host Joy Sutton and This years...

     I had a great time at Joy Sutton's party last Thursday!  She is quite a dynamic lady and wants to be the next Oprah!  I have no doubt she will succeed!  Her show has been renewed for a second season and the time has been moved to 11:00 Sunday mornings.  I am looking forward to being one of her guests this Spring.  My date is tentatively April 3rd!

For many years now I have been buying golden delicious apples instead of the red ones.  They always seemed to be sweeter and firmer.  Lately the ones I have been buying are too tart so I went back to red delicious which I figured would be a big mistake.  Much to my surprise they are great, not mushy, and sweet!  I made that comment to my  husband and he said maybe the stores ran out of last years apples and are selling this year's crop.  What a comment!  Anyway, I'm glad they aren't mushy and low on taste.

Sold another Print and This time I will be on TV...

 So glad to sell another print to a great patron in Riner, VA.  This sale was of a cabin at Clayor Lake in Dublin, VA.  Beautiful place!

I am pleased that my drawing,"Reaching Out" is beautifully displayed on Fox's The Mindy Project but now I am very excited  that I will be on My19 out of Roanoke, VA.  Joy Sutton contacted me to ask me to be on her show, The Hour of Joy, which has been renewed for another season.  My appearance will be taped January 26th and the tentative air date is April 3rd.  They are going to set up some of my paintings on easels.  I hope I don't trip!

I was looking at some old photos online of girl in the 40's and thought they looked great!  They didn't look like they hadn't eaten in a week like a lot of models do these days.  Slender is fine but I think we have taken it to extremes.  My husband said if one of those models saw a potato chip in a room they would run out screaming!  I think girls should be allowed to eat just like guys.

That turned out all right and You will see how well he blocks...

I finished a painting that I thought I had finished a long time ago.  I am pleased that I was able to remember the methods I used then and completed it without making into a different painting.  That is always a very tricky thing to do.  I have completely re-done a few old paintings and was glad I did.  They just needed one more layer for success.  This one just needed a few modifications in a few areas.  Now I am happy with it and will not work on it again - I think.

I think I have mentioned this one about football players before but I am not about to go through all my blogs to find out so bear with me, because I know I have a different punch line.  I'm not much for sports and I can't get into football.  I have the greatest respect for all the effort that goes into games but I would rather do something else.  Last year I was invited to a friend's house to watch the Superbowl and it was the first time I really looked closely at the players.  I was amazed to see that some of the players were overweight with big guts.  I thought the only athletes that were allowed to be fat were suma wrestlers.

Recently I made that comment again to my husband about a player that had quite a protuding gut and was wondering how he could play so well with the extra weight. He said get between him and a cheeseburger and you will see how well he blocks.

Strange Experience and I wouldn't text you...

I am hoping to get some work done today on an old painting that I want to add to my portfolio on my website.  It is always a strange experience to work on an old painting.  Even though all of my work has my stamp on it, there are changes over the years that are more evident to me than the viewer.  My methods are completely different from when I started out so the trick is to go back in time to work on an old one or use my current methods to change it completely.  I don't want to do the latter so I have to try and remember how I approached it many years ago.  Art is such a trip!

I have noticed in movies and real life that sometimes people will text very serious messages rather than talk to the person.  Since I grew up without cell phones or computers I find this an odd approach to communication.  It was a long time before I got my curmudgeon husband to even buy a cell phone and since he hardly uses it, he has 700 minutes on it.  He says when the Martians finally contact him he will be able to have a long, long conversation.  He never texts and when I mentioned to him that he would never text a serious message to me, he said he wouldn't text me to put the burgers on the grill.  I like living with a comedian!

Latest You Tube and Flying out the Window...

I am very pleased with my latest YouTube video on Beautiful Beaches!  The colors in the first ones are great!  The last one is a little low in color due to the lighting in the room I used to made the video.  Since I say welcome to Towhee Hill Studio at the beginning, I guess I should use my studio but the spacing is so awkward in there and the light is better in the computer room.  Anyway, here it is so be sure to look.  If you put my name in the search all four will come up on the first page.

My husband and I are getting so sick of the political commercials and the stream of phone calls to vote the way the caller wants us to.  We are constantly clicking the mute button but the ringing phone is getting on our nerves.  I think there will be one positive outcome of this presidential election.  Out landline is going to fly out the window at a hundred miles an hour and we will just turn off the cells.

I have been working hard on some YouTubes of my work in spite of two sick guys at home.  My husband is better but my son took a few days off last week and then started a secondary infection that swelled his throat up so much he could hardly talk.  Anyway, I am proud of my efforts and I hope people keep checking them out.  The first one is on my Beautiful Nude Series which includes "Reaching Out" which was picked out of over three million works of art on Fine Art America to be on The Mindy Project.  The second one is on my portrait work and includes my recent portrait of world famous violinist David Garrett and the third one is on the beautiful Blue Ridge Vistas that I have made and sold many paintings of.  I live in the most beautiful place in the world and I never tire of painting it and adding my own special interpretation.

A new commercial about a help center got my husband and I joking around as usual.  The center is called The Headache Center, and , of course, the purpose is to help people who suffer from headaches but we couldn't help cracking jokes about how this must be  the place to go if you need a headache.  This week only, two for one sale! Buy one headache and get the second one free!  No offense to the center but I think they might consider adding the word Relief to the name.

I am working on a portrait this week that I didn't finish a long time ago.  Yes, artists do go back to old work sometimes which is why it is always good to sell them.  Sometimes revisions kill the initial effort.  Fingers crossed!

Knocking hard on wood and You might get another political announcement...

Lately I feel like I am slogging through mud trying to get things done.  A little over a week ago my husband and son came down with a nasty virus and I slathered on hand sanitizer and knocked on wood all over the house.  I didn't get their bugs but it is so hard to work when you have sick people to care for.  My son got better and then last night started a different viral infection while my husband is still hacking from the first one.  I keep wanting to put up another YouTube video but I need the time to do it and quiet to record.  Oh well, maybe tomorrow I can get my third one up which will be on Blue Ridge Vistas. I have my piano music on Audacity for the background and the paintings up.  Fingers crossed!

I keep seeing this ad on TV about a device that removes hair, a grooming practice which didn't use to be so important.  I guess we went from long hair hippies to short hair or bald on purpose kids without a hair anywhere else on their bodies.  I jokingly told my husband I wanted to order one of the devices.  He said I better not because I might get another political commercial to go with it.  I might get someone telling me to vote Republican.  Democrats have too much hair.  Just kidding around!
