Staunton Asylum Ghost Story

In my search for ghost stories I am surprised at how many of them are in Staunton, Virginia!  I guess there are a lot of creepy places there!

There is a haunted asylum there that is infamous for a doctor that use to cleanse his patients by torture! It was shut down many years ago but people claim they still hear screams and thumps in the building. 

One father and son actually video taped their experience.
I don't know what to think about the tape but it is a great ghost story!

Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler

I work at home and I do mean work.  Now that I am selling my artwork full-time I get up and work hard at promoting my paintings online.  I am working harder since I retired from teaching at Radford University.  I knew that would happen.

My husband works at V.P.I. and S.U. in Government Documents.  Like any office, there are times when workers can take a break, especially if there is a party.

So today I got up and started to work right away and then decided to take a little break!  Time for me to stand around the water cooler for a little while or celebrate a pretend birthday!

My husband is always glad when I let up a little.  Two days ago a blood vessel in my right eye broke when I lifted my easel.  My doctor said that if you take aspirin and then lift things the strain can cause that to happen.  Next time I need to take something for soreness, I am taking Advil, which is what he suggested.

Near Memorial Bridge is a house I see every time I cross the bridge.  It is the only house that can be seen all year long.  The others are covered up by summer vegetation.  I love the way the light hits this home!

I am having a great time researching Ghost stories in The New River Valley!  Who doesn't like a ghost story?

Radford City Virginia Ghost Story

St. Albans in Radford Virginia was originally a boy's school. It stands over the New River and was converted into a sanatorium. The site is now used by Radford University but many buildings are empty.

The Seven Hills Paranormal Society has investigated the site and reported "shadow people" or un-seen presences.  They also reported a mysterious ball of light hovering near the floor and then disappeared.

One investigator felt like she had been shoved in the chest and footsteps have been heard throughout the hospital.  Also, voices have been heard.  One said, "God, I want to die", and another said, "Tasha, we need to hide."

I found this information in an article entitled "Haunted Places in  New River Valley Vieginia" from the online publication Ehow.

I have so many paintings from Rock Castle Gorge that I think I will be blogging about this gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway attraction for a while.  

Hikers especially love the trails at this site and my husband has actually walked as much as eight miles off the trail up and down the mountain to get photographs of butterflies.

His photographer, Bruce Grimes, has to carry heavy equipment to get good photographs and he often has to lie down on his stomach to get the shot.  I have always admired photographers!  

Good photography is quite an art and a job!

The actual trail is a loop that is  just short of 11 miles long.

It ranges from 1700 feet to 3572 feet at Rocky Knob.

I am especially fond of this oil painting of a road that leads to Rocky Knob.  It is quite an expressive work!

There are so many interesting trails around this area and the wildflowers in season are stunning!

When I was in school I had a teacher that was fond of country and mountain scenes and he remarked to me one time that He especially liked the kind of yellow/white grass seen along the dirt road in the painting at the top.

Most artists have a main medium and a secondary medium.  My main medium is oil paint but my secondary medium is pastels.

I am especially proud of my American Artist Award for "Near Smithfield Plantation"from famed pastelist Daniel Greene.

Life with the Bird and Word Man

• People often don't like their photograph and with good reason!  The lens is curved and the resulting parallax can make for a picture that looks how a person looks in a curved piece of metal.  No one wants that!
• I pride myself that I can work around the parallax but I have been having a hard time lately with my digital camera.  I think the old 35mm cameras had less perspective distortion.

Anyway, I finally got a decent picture of my husband for the publication The Writing Disorder which will feature his poems this Spring.  The tenebristic light made all the difference!

Pleased to sell another print of Burning Shore and It isn't funny...

I am so pleased to sell another print of one of my favorite paintings to a great patron in Mobile, Alabama!  The painting is owned by a New York patron and I miss it.  It was one of my Small Gem paintings and was 5"x7".  It is great that patrons can get a huge print of this beautiful painting.  It is one of my most expressive works.

I can't think of anything funny right now.  It is hard to joke around after tragedies.  Humor is one of life's joys that keeps me going but I can't help but be quite sad right now.  My son is no longer in school but if I had gotten a call that he was killed at school I'm not sure I would be here right now.

I am looking forward to being on The Hour of Joy on April 3rd!  It will be great to have my paintings on TV.  I love what I do and will be thrilled to talk about my work to such a large audience.

So far on The Mindy Project my best-selling print "Reaching Out" has been seen on the2d, 4th, 5th, and 8th episodes!  It is great to watch a show and see my work there!
