Blue Ridge Parkway Artist

I have my work cut out for me today as usual.  I hope I can get to a new Skyline Beauty painting but I need to build a crate to send a painting out.  That is always quite a chore.  Artwork has to be immobilized and double boxed. 

I have to measure and cut out the boxes and sides which always takes a lot longer than I think it will.  I also have some photography to get done and a zillion computer chores. 

Oh well, can't complain about selling another original!  I am so pleased my new Skyline Beauty series is appreciated!  Star City Sparkle was sold to a great Virginia patron!

Life with The Bird and Word Man - Clyde Kessler

I have been without a cell phone for two weeks.  I can't believe the problems I have been having with phone service.  I went online to transfer my number and minutes to a better phone and received the notice that once the old one went dead I had a few more steps to do and then the new one would be ready to use. 

Well, I book marked the instructions and when my old phone went dead the book mark was gone so I went online to try to get to that step and could not get there.  My only option was to call and get help from someone with a strong accent that I could barely hear.  She said I was all set and could use the phone. 

WRONG! 

The phone would not change screens so I called again and after a long time the representative said for me to send it back after I received a label in the mail.  I received a box the size of the first box. I had already carefully packed the phone in the first box.   Inside the second box was a Fed Ex envelope. 

My instructions were to send the phone back in the flimsy envelope.   I kept the phone in the plastic it came in and asked the Fed Ex man if the phone would be all right sent that way.  He said yes.

Anyway, Clyde and I have had so many problems with phones that he said we were like a couple of monkeys up a tree without a coconut.

I live to paint. I really do and it is great when I find homes for my originals.  The patron in Richmond emailed me to say the painting is perfect, looks better than the listing, and my packaging was perfect!  I love to hear all that since computer monitors are all set up differently.

I order greeting cards of my work once in a while to check on how the work looks online. So far, I am doing a great job.  Still, that doesn't mean the viewer is seeing exactly what I have uploaded so it is great to hear from happy patrons!

I am also an amateur pianist and I love to play my piano every day.  It is hard to find the time but I usually can get in a decent amount of time.   I am concerned that my fingers are not as good as they used to be. They don't hurt, so I don't think I have arthritis, just some stiffness from age.

Oh well,  I can still play and enjoy it very much.  I was adding my music to my Youtube videos but that got to be too time consuming and Youtube has great background music!

Ants, ants, ants.  They were having quite a party in the bedroom. Now they have adjourned to the bath room again.  I put out the drops and a queen dies but others must take her place because they are all over the counter once again.

They snub their noses at me and give me dirty looks because I haven't put out any drops today.  We are getting low on the stuff and Clyde is not sure he can get more.  I think a friend gave him this bottle.  Guess I will have to go online for more.

I am about ready to pick them up one at a time and heave them out the door!  See how fast they come back in for drops after that.

We both like chocolate but I am especially addicted to it.  I don't think a day goes by without some sort of chocolate.  I don't just have a tooth that craves sugar.  My whole body craves it.  I think the only way I would give it up is if I were put in a straight jacket .

Anyway, yesterday I read on the internet that twenty bars of chocolate at one time is a lethal dose!  I told Clyde this and he, of course said, "What a way to go.  You may have a sugar overdose but you wouldn't care."   I don't know about that.  One bar is plenty for me!

Here is another great Blue Ridge Parkway Ghost Story!

The Battery Park Hotel is now apartment building.  Supposedly it is haunted by a woman that was murdered in room 224.  On July 17th, 1936 Helen Clevenger was found murdered.  She had been beaten, her faced slashed and shot.

An employee Martin Moore confessed to the crime and died in the gas chamber.  On stormy nights Helen is seen wandering the halls.

The roof was the scene for a number of suicides and people report seeing bodies falling from it.

Yesterday I wrote how our kitchen is a 24/7 diner for ants this time of the years.  We have a glucose poison they are supposed to eat and take back to the nest.  This is not happening. They just sit around the poison in a circle and have fun rather than take it back to the nest and annihilate it.

We have two kinds of ants.  Some very small ones and larger, blacker ones.

Today I was so happy that the large ones were not sitting around the poison talking and laughing!  I guess one of them finally went back to the nest.  There is still plenty of poison on the slips of paper so I don't have to serve them today.

The smaller ones are still here but they still have plenty of poison to sit around.

The waitress has a day off!

These two paintings are before and after Radford City paintings.  The New Memorial Bridge is beautiful but I loved the complicated lattice work of the old one.

 Radford University Ghost Story

I am still finding New River Valley Ghost stories!

There is a rumor that a girl hanged herself in an elevator shaft in Tyler Hall at Radford University when it was an all girl college.  The story is that she was with child by a professor and became so despondent that she ended her life. Student/Professor relationships were strictly forbidden in those days.

The writer of the story for The Tartan in 1995 said that one night an RA told her he noticed the door was open to the old shaft and he looked in and saw a rope hanging from the top of it. The rope startled him since he was familiar with the tale but just thought it was another rope.  He shut the door but had to shut it three more times that night.

Students on the third floor have reported sounds of a baby crying that seem to be coming from the attic.

Too Much Information

I think we are so bombarded with words on the internet that we are reading way too fast and missing very important information.  Since I am a professional artist and I sell online I communicate with a lot of people all the time.

Sometimes I get messages from men that would like a relationship with me that is more than friendship.  I am flattered but I am happily married and I always send that in the message.  Oftentimes after I send that message I get another message with the same request for a relationship.

We need to slow down a little!

Before I met Clyde I didn't know anything about birds beyond a robin, crow, or eagle.  I am still do not know anywhere near what he knows about bird and butterflies but I know a lot more now that when I was single.

Clyde is not much for the beach but I am not happy if I don't get there once a year.  Many years ago at Rehoboth beach he pointed out an osprey to me flying over the waves.  I had never heard of that eagle before that day.  It is a beautiful bird and here is a painting I made to celebrate the flight of the osprey.
