Two weeks without cold water and when we use cold water in the kitchen the solar system leaks.  The heat pump people are doing their inspection today.  I hope there is nothing wrong there.  One good thing about this problem is I make sure I find the time to get to the Aquatic Center so I can have a hot shower after swimming.  I saw something that I thought was very interesting yesterday.  The life guard did not sit in the chair.  He stood by the pool for a while, walked around the pool, and then stood again.  I thought that was a smart way to handle that job.  Sitting is so bad for us.  That was a very smart life guard!

Clyde mentioned to me a while back that there is evidence that our I. Q.s are going down and the researchers think it has something to do with the time spent on the internet.  He thinks we may have to rethink the word Homo Sapiens.  Since Sapien is the New Latin word for wise maybe we should change the name to Stupidicus Maximus.  Okay, he said it, not me, although considering some of the things we do that causes harm, it is looking like a possible replacement for Homo Sapien.

Still no warm water and a lot of smart mice running around leaving their calling cards.  I was getting discouraged over the lack of success with the traps and worried that they had gotten too smart for them when I found one this morning.  Yea!  I don't like to kill them but they were too smart for the Have a Heart trap so they either need to vacate the premises or pay the consequences.  I hope they are packing their bags right now. 

I have started another Fall Peaks of Otter painting.  This one is of the beautiful lake in front of the lodge.  Here is the first layer!

I try to find time to read.  It is difficult since I am practically manacled to a computer.  I don't want to read online books.  It is tough on the eyes so I do get books from the library.  Radford library has a great collection and they get new books in all the time.  Sometimes I pick something out without my glasses and wonder how that one got in my house. 

Clyde always checks out what I get and gives me his opinion.  The last book I checked out was a rather unsophisticated illustrated book of poems that I thought was something else.  Clyde was not at all impressed with it.  I told him I got that book by mistake.  He said the author wrote it by mistake.

We are still getting cold water from the bathroom and heating it on the stove.  If we use the water in the kitchen the broken water tank starts spewing it out.  The Aquatic Center is looking real good right now.  We can get a hot shower there so I think I will be swimming more this week and hoping the plumber can find a replacement unit for our tank.  Fingers and toes crossed!

Wow!  We really have a mouse infestation.  A few days ago we caught two and then re-set the trap and didn't catch one so we thought we were done.  Then as I was walking down the hall yesterday a mouse smiled and waved at me as he ran into the kitchen.  Clyde is beginning to think they have figured out that the mouse trap is no place to nibble.  There is a great mouse joke that says it all.  A mouse is happily eating cheese next to a trap that has a sign.  The sign has the words Better Cheese.  The mouse says no thanks! 

I can only hope that any mice we still have will start getting stupid real fast.

Wow!  Not my favorite week.  Our Solar System sprang a leak and now we can't use our hot water and it leaks every time we use the cold water.  Both the plumber and the solar tech guy said this is the way it has to be until we get a replacement part for where it is leaking. 

We will probably have to replace the whole unit.  It is one of the first models and uses a water heater.  The new ones  provide direct electricity without going through a water tank.  I have to keep heating water on the stove to do dishes while emptying buckets of water at the unit. 

New roof, new car after one died, and now a new heating system.  2017 has been the Year of Spending Money.  Yikes!

Clyde's work phone and our landline have had another fight and they aren't speaking to each other.  I think they need counseling so they can get their tech act together.  Between our dying solar system, phone trouble, and a new mouse running around our house, Clyde is feeling old.

Whenever he complains about being old I pretend I am older. I tell him that you are only as old as you feel which makes me about 85.  He said he has rolled past 100 and can't get up.

If you don't like to swim laps because it is boring, swim the breast stroke with a friend!  It is amazing how fast those laps are done when you are yakking away the time!  I did that yesterday and it was great!

Life with The Bird and Word Man - Clyde Kessler

Last Wednesday I was watching TV in the living room when I saw a rather large object coming down the hall way.  It was too big to be an insect so I knew it had to be a mouse.  When I approached it, it ran into a closet.  I told Clyde and he said once you have a mouse in the house, you usually have more.  They are hard to get rid of.

This is our third mouse.  Clyde got out the mouse traps and had forgotten how to set them.  I am always griping about computers but they certainly can be a big help.  He looked up the brand and there was a video on how to set them.  He went into the the kitchen and yelled to me that if I heard a scream, then he did it wrong.

No scream!  Yes!  I hope we catch the little stinker.  May all your homes be mouse free!

 

The mouse trap cartoon is from an ad for pest removal.  I doubt that they will mind that I used it here since I am including the link to their business.

Life with The Bird and Word Man - Clyde Kessler

Years ago Clyde made a comment as we all went to vote that I like very much.  He said we need to hold our noses and vote.  I wish that were not true, but it usually is.  I am glad that in this presidential election there is one candidate that I hope will get to be on the ticket but I doubt that will happen.

Anyway, I was surprised to see the same phrase in The Roanoke Times online news today.  The gist of the article is that Obama is receiving a rise in popularity due to a lot of different positive factors.  The writer then goes on to say that "as many in the United States hold their noses as we search for the next president, they're  increasingly  warming  to the one they already have..."

So Clyde isn't the only one that uses that phrase to prepare to vote!  Love it!
