Mountain Path is another sensuous, colorful painting from my series,
Suggestions. I am starting with an abstract expressionist surface and then looking for forms that appear in the paint. This time a path with trees began to appear so I made the path and trees stronger. This type of woods scene is a part of me. I spent so much of my time in the woods. It is no wonder I have a lot of this type of peaceful paintings.

Looking In is another sensuous, colorful painting from my series,
Suggestions. I am starting with an abstract expressionist surface and then looking for forms that appear in the paint. This time an eye with vertical marks around it began to appear so I made it into a scene of someone looking through a broken chain link fence. I couldn't be happier with the colors, textures, and mood in this one.

My husband is still rather sick from a bug that started a week before Christmas.  Talk about staying power.  Anyway, he is my main source for humor so I was goading him last night.

I talked about the political party he hates.  Actually he doesn't like either one but he does hate one more than the other.  All I got were some expressive hand gestures and colorful language that I can't put here.

I talked about the games that he thinks are taking kids away from studying and loving the environment that he works hard to protect.   I got some rather pointed comments involving the moon with that one.

I never did get anything I can put in print so maybe when he feels better I will get some funnies I can use.

The Word Man is down for a while but he will be back!

Mothers Day Gift is a still life I did a number of years ago. My parents sent me flowers on Mothers Day which I thought was odd until I read the card. They wrote that since their mothers were both deceased they decided to honor me that year. I turned their beautiful gift into  a striking still life. This is one Mothers Day Gift I will never forget. What a wonderful way to honor a child that has become a mother. I especially like the warm/cool color contrast due to the morning light effect

460 is a painting of a stretch of route 460 on the way into Christiansburg, VA. I am especially pleased with the complexity of color and textural quality in this piece. The wildflowers in the front frame the scene beautifully. The painting is in a solid wood molded frame. This is a low-level impasto painting and is colorful and peaceful.

Clyde is still ill from a bug that is going around but that doesn't stop him from cracking me up with his humor.  He certainly married his best audience.  I love his jokes and word play.

Yesterday we were talking about all the super heroes on TV and in movies these days.  They certainly are taking over the media.  He is not happy with how some of them are portrayed.  He says some of their powers have been wimped down. 

For example, the TV Smallville Superboy is actually afraid to fly.  Clyde can't understand that.  What's the problem?  If he falls he will just blast a hole through to China, drink some tea, and fly home.

Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler

I really do like to add something funny here since Clyde cracks me up most of the time but this time I don't have anything from him or me.  I have started writing down the crazy things he says to me because sometimes I don't remember the quip. 

Lot of times he groans right after making me laugh and says, "Don't put that on the internet".  I do resist putting up some of them.

The other night he came up with a good one and I wrote it down.  I was surprised when I looked at it today that I didn't get the humor.  I must have left something out so I called him up and he couldn't remember what it was either.

Oh well, Facebook is always around for back up.  Yesterday there was a picture of a beautiful horse with a mane blowing in the wind.  The caption read, "Was she barn with it or is it Neighbelline!

Suggestions. I am starting with an abstract expressionist surface and then looking for forms that appear in the paint. This time it took a long time before I saw any nebulous shapes and then the yellow spiral like shape showed up. I made it stronger and added two more. They could be flowers, spirals, ribbons, etc. I thought Whatever would be the best title. I am very pleased with the warm/cool color contrast in this one.

Computers, computers, computers!  As usual, I am on a rant which reminded me of a decision I made long ago.  I decided it would not be a good idea to have a gun in the house for protection.  As my grandmother said when she was living by herself in her eighties, if a crook comes into my house he must bring his own gun.  I agree.  I think I would probably shoot myself in the foot if I had one.

Yesterday I became so aggravated with computer problems that I thought it would be nice to have a gun to blast it apart! 

I guess Clydes' advice that I have printed here before is the better way to handle the situation.

Open the window and let gravity do the work.

 

Wow!  I wrote the above a while ago and then went to work on finishing this blog and had a bunch of computer problems which proves my theory that computers have minds of their own and can read yours!

When computers took over our lives Clyde made the comment that in some ways it is a Trojan Horse.  When you consider the children that have actually committed suicide because of internet bullying, he does have a valid point.

They are great in many ways and I doubt I would have artwork in 24 states, Canada, Russia, Germany, Australia, and England if it were not for internet marketing.

Still, Clyde is still not keen on computers, especially since he has to be on one eight hours a day at work.  The other night I remarked how much easier shopping is with a computer and he said he wouldn't be happy until you can get a pizza shoved at you through the printer.

Now, that would be something!  A little cynical humor to start our days!

Clyde is from Franklin County which, as most people know, is the Moon shine Capital.  Ferrum, Virginia is a very nice place where his great great uncle George Kessler, along with two others, founded Ferrum College.  Still, the county does have a well-deserved reputation for boot legging.

Today when I was looking at other blogs with great photographs it occurred to him that a humorous photographic still could be a picture of two boot leggers running away from the Law that just found their still. 

That certainly gives photographic still a new meaning!  Had to laugh.

If you read my blogs then you know I love to laugh and look for any opportunity to crack up and then share it with Clyde.  Most of the funnies I post here are his or mine but sometimes I find things on Facebook that are fantastic. 

The other day there was a strange little creature with the caption - Home is where I can look ugly and enjoy it!  That is so true!  I don't even get decently dressed or look into a mirror until have the day is gone.

I mentioned this one to Clyde and he said we must have a huge house to hold all his ugly.  Not so!  Clyde is a great looking guy and when the mirror in the bathroom actually came off the wall and shattered, he was no where near it!

I am very pleased to have finished another large Pawleys Island painting.  This one is the companion piece to His Spot.  Another view across the tidal creek at Pawleys Island where my husband studies wildlife on our vacation.  The sun is just about behind the trees and spreading orange light on the scene.

Radford High Day Lilies is a colorful, textural painting of the beautiful flowers that are in patches at Radford High School. The crown vetch provide a great accent to the day lilies. I loved seeing these flowers when I picked up my son from school and now see them when I go to the library that is next to the High school. I am very proud of the complex surface of this painting. The colors and textures are continually modulated throughout the work.

Clyde is still quite sick even though he was on penicillin  for a week!  He always has such a hard time shaking illnesses.  They settle in his sinuses and affect his ears.  He is going back to the doctor today.  Hope he can get something that will knock out this monster bug!

When Clyde gets sick the germs settle in and set up house and eventually a bank account!  Nasty little things!

As I have mentioned before, my husband calls me to make sure I am up.  He goes to work at 4:30 am - yes am, and I am up at 7:30.

Often times he goes to a store on the way home and asks me if I need anything.

Since it was 3 degrees I asked him for some warm weather.

His response was I needed to get my own boat.

I asked him where would the boat go!

 Tiger Stare is an intense, expressive painting from my series Kendall Expressions. My work has always had Expressionistic elements combined with Impressionistic elements. In these works I am emphasizing my expressive side. I am very pleased with the look in the tiger's eyes and the linear patterns of the stripes. The painting is on stretched canvas without frame.

I have mentioned two bruises I cannot account for and both times my husband had a quip of how I am probably smacking him at night to stop his snoring.  He is still congested and that is usually the only time he snores.

Well, yesterday I mentioned that my thumb on my left hand is sore.  Of course his explanation is that I am probably poking him the eye since the hand slap and kick didn't stop the snoring.

I seriously doubt I am attacking my husband when I am sleeping but his quips do make me laugh!
