Blue Ridge Parkway Artist can't find anything and The VSO Foray...

Blue Ridge Parkway Artist

 The studio is getting to that point again.  I cleaned up a little today so I can walk but it will need major work soon.  On a cheerier note, The Country Line Dancers were great Tuesday!  I hope the pictures turn out good for the newspaper and online publications.

Also, the Bird Man, Clyde Kessler is at it again in Franklin County, Va starting this Saturday!  Come on out and join this great, important birding effort!

 

The VSO Foray this year is in Franklin County, Virginia June 6 - 14th.

Information on nesting birds in Franklin County is scant. There has been only one previous foray that covered a small portion of Franklin County in 1976. The only other organized breeding bird study in the county was the Atlas Project, 1984 - 1989. This is a great opportunity for participants to contribute to a better understanding of nesting birds in this part of Virginia.

Evening gatherings will be at Ferrum College. For directions to the College click here. Specifically these will start at 5 pm each evening. We'll meet at the gazebo beside Adam's Lake on the Ferrum campus. We'll wrap up around 6 pm, and make plans for the next day as needed. Todd Fredericksen will have a cook out at his home on the evening of June 9th. I'll post directions soon for how to get to his home.
Some general reminders:

We won't call in birds for the foray counts.

 

Don't enter private property without permission, and be sure to call ahead when we do have permission.  Thank the owners for letting us on their property.

 

Don't skip "boring" areas (towns, farmer's fields, etc.).

I haven't met the media that I don't like but I don't paint a lot of watercolors.  They are beautiful but I like oil paint the best!

I hate to beat a dead horse but when it comes to computers I just wish I could beat it and still have it work.  I keep trying to remember how useful it is and resist the temptation to shove it out the window, but it is difficult.

Clyde is better at it than I am but he still has to wonder at how instructions that are made for dummies still don't work.  I will never forget how I figured out that I can stabilize my Youtube video and then have to  add music next or my voice will not be heard. 

If I make any other modifications before adding music the voice over is gone.   I had a young helper try to figure that one out and he gave up.  I figured it out  by accident. Pretty sure I mentioned this incident before but I am still harping on it.

Right now I need some more accidents as I try to figure out annotations on Youtube.  I followed the instructions to add a link to my website and nothing happened.  ARGH!!!!!!

 

Whoever works out these programs so computer dummies can use them is not doing a good job!

I have always enjoyed jokes, word play, and other kinds of humor and really get into laughing!  As I have said before Clyde supplies most of the funnies for my blog but I do come up with some of my own and look for others on the internet.

Yesterday wasn't very funny.  I wrote about how I was looking forward to Line Dance Class and then after I published the blog I threw my back out and missed class.  At first I thought it wasn't going to be bad but the pain got to be too much to be able to drive so I missed class.

It is a lot better today so I am hoping I can get to the Thursday class in Blacksburg. 

Neither of us came up with anything funny yesterday but I saw something on another site that I thought was great and reflected how I felt.

An apple a day will keep anyone away if you throw it hard enough!  Nobody threw anything at my back yesterday but it sure kept me away from my fun.

Suggestions. I am starting with an abstract expressionist surface and then looking for forms that appear in the paint. This time I saw two vague hooded figures at the right of the painting so I added one more and some nebulous stars. Make of it what you will!

As I have mentioned before, my husband calls me to make sure I am up.  He goes to work at 4:30 am - yes am, and I am up at 7:30.

Often times he goes to a store on the way home and asks me if I need anything.

Since it was 3 degrees I asked him for some warm weather.

His response was I needed to get my own boat.

I asked him where would the boat go!

I have mentioned two bruises I cannot account for and both times my husband had a quip of how I am probably smacking him at night to stop his snoring.  He is still congested and that is usually the only time he snores.

Well, yesterday I mentioned that my thumb on my left hand is sore.  Of course his explanation is that I am probably poking him the eye since the hand slap and kick didn't stop the snoring.

I seriously doubt I am attacking my husband when I am sleeping but his quips do make me laugh!

Computers are great in many ways but I HATE how you have to keep learning about them.  I am the perfect example of the old dog you can't teach new tricks to.  I am forever complaining about this machine to my husband who knows a lot more about them than I do.  He sits in front of one all day at his job.

I sit in front of one mainly to promote my artwork.  I live to paint but I can't  take them with me so I work hard to find homes for them.

My computer rant today is every time a site informs me of the great new changes it has made I let out a groan.  They rarely seem like better changes to me and I am always lost at first.  I get tripped up by little things I 'll bet most people are not bothered by.  I am computer challenged.
