I have decided to take  a break from my Skyline Series because I have a great idea for a new Kendall Expressions painting.  Not sure which medium I will use but it will be a 20" x 16" one.  In spite of all my chores I will get the preparations going today!

Clyde finally said something about the upcoming Presidential election that I can print!  He is not happy about how the preliminaries are going and he said if it comes down to two he really cannot support he is tempted to write in Scooby Doo!

Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler

Longevity runs in my family so I have been trying to get my body in better shape without hurting myself.  My Dad was real big on swimming so I try to swim once a week but it is not a weight bearing exercise so I walk and Line Dance.  It has been my mistake not to stretch before activities and I have discovered some muscle problems due to this mistake.

A while back I realized I could not touch my toes so I have worked hard to gradually stretch out those muscles and now I can touch my toes.

Now I am trying Yoga with a DVD and it is quite an eye opener!  The teacher can sit with her legs crossed and touching the floor.  I can't even get near the floor.  She says to sit on a pillow so hips are higher than knees.  Doesn't help one bit!

I am determined to get those knees down but those pigs aren't  flying by the window!  My right knee is a little sore today so I have to take a break.

Maybe one of these days I will get those knees down and a whole slew of pigs will fly right by!

My computer rants go on and on.  Again, I want to be sure to emphasize that I think the computer is an amazing machine. I wouldn't have a clue on how to make one and it does a lot of work for me.  Still, it drives me crazy.  Clyde  also has many computer gripes and, as I have said before, he tells people to open the window and let gravity do the work.

Now he has another solution.  Remember kick the can?  Well he thinks I could alleviate my frustrations if I play kick the computer down the street!  If they weren't so expensive I think I would be very tempted to do that.

A Break in the Clouds is my best-selling painting on my website! 

 

A Break in the Clouds is a colorful view of Rock Castle Gorge which is near Rocky Knob on the Blue RIdge Parkway where my husband does much of his research on birds and butterflies. This painting has the most complex system of clouds of all of my landscapes. I am always fascinated with various atmospheric effects in this beautiful mountain region.

My husband is always playing with words which is a lot of fun for me.  I love word play.  He definitely married his best audience.  I knew he wrote before we got married but I didn't know how much fun his word play was until afterwards.  I have been either laughing or fascinated by his creativity ever since.

His latest one is on the human race.   I believe if people would take the study of History seriously then we wouldn't keep repeating events that cause us harm.

Since we keep repeating errors Clyde has decided that the origin of the phrase human race was because we keep going around and around in circles.  I hope we never get to a finish line, but we certainly have been capable of the end of the world scenario for a long time.  Anyone that isn't aware of that fact should brush up on their knowledge of History. 

It is my opinion that History is the most important subject in school.  I wish everyone agreed with that.  Oh well, some of Clyde's word play is more thoughtful than funny.  I like it all!

The Legend of Blowing Rock

The town of Blowing Rock in North Carolina is named for a large over-hanging rock formation over a deep valley in the Appalachian mountains that has an upward draft. The draft is so strong that in winter snow blows upwards towards the rocks.

There is a story about this phenomenon that concerns two lovers from different Native American tribes.

Long ago a young chickasaw woman and her father moved deep into the woods to get away from the constant conflict between the Chickasaws and the Cherokees.  One day she was  in the woods gathering food when she saw a man that she feel in love with at first sight.  He was a Cherokee.

They met secretly for months and then one day they were drawn to a cliff to see a strange color in the sky.   The sun turned dark and became almost the color of blood.  The man knew this meant there was going to be a war between the two tribes and much blood would be lost.

He didn't know who is should be loyal to- his tribe, or his love.  His decision was to jump off the cliff and end his life.  His lover was horrified and prayed to the gods that controlled the wind that he wouldn't die and he magically came back up to her on the wind.

The two used the example of their miraculous love to bring peace to the Cherokees and the Chickasaws.

My husband is always playing with words and cracking me up.  We haven't had to call 911 yet but I see that day coming.  Maybe one day I can laugh to death!  I think that would be a great way to go!

Anyway, he came up with one I really like a few days ago.  He was talking about revising different kinds of writing and came up with the word, revisal.

A revisal is where an editor goes to get religion! Love it!
