Clyde and I had to laugh big time over a Facebook joke!  The seventies band America wrote a song called A Horse with no Name.  The guy is going through the desert on a horse with no name.  Someone on Facebook said that at any time during that desert trip the guy could have given the horse a name. Just saying!

Life with The Bird and Word Man - Clyde Kessler

I had such a bad experience with a sales representative over the phone that I had to call Clyde and tell him about it.  The woman I talked to kept spelling my name wrong but insisted she was spelling it correctly. She was also rude about a number of other things she asked me. 

I have had students on the verge of getting an "F" for a course speak in a politer manner to me and that is saying something these days.  One student put me through the ringer because she insisted the "C" she received was incorrect.  Her helicopter Dad called the president of the University to complain.  I have been happily retired for four years.

Anyway, at the beginning of the conversation I was given the option to fill out a survey about the service at the end of the call.  I declined but I will be sure to do that next time!

I hate to follow up a discouraging post about gun violence with a Monday Blues story but this is one irritating Monday.  We all have them.  I spent an hour with a computer operator at RU trying to get rid of some wierd announcement I get when I try to go to the site.

After a full hour of back and forth and his manipulation of my computer he said they were having a short and that was the last word I heard from him.

If he doesn't try to call me back it will be a little hard not to think he was making that up because he just couldn't solve the problem.  I will wait and see.  Now I have to log in to all my sites with pass words I have a hard time remembering.   This is not fun.

I have to go see about a rather sudden growth on my forehead later today and, to modify an old hit song, all she wants to do is paint!

Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler

Yesterday we were discussing music after church.  Our organist is great!  She also plays the piano and the guitar and was trained in voice!   I always thank her after church because I know how much work goes into music.  I play my piano every day.  Clyde has studied music more than I have and is familiar with the historical  development of the art.  He can play the guitar very well but doesn't read music.

We were talking about singing and how hard it would be to sing really well.  A singer can't drop a note the way pianists can and get away with it.  Clyde said that he would be dropping notes right and left and everyone would be headed for the door if he sang solo.  I don't think anyone is considering asking him to sing.

I am excited about getting to the third layer of another Blue Ridge Parkway autumn painting!  The second layer is just about dry.  Most of my paintings are done in three layers, some more than three.

"Shadows on Sunflowers" is an intimate look at some sunflowers in a vase against a backdrop of shifting light. The swirling textures enliven the surface and the colors are intense. The brushwork is complicated and sensuous.

I have always been fascinated with the colors of light and shade. I remember reading somewhere that many people consider warm and cool colors together to be like the music of the spheres.

North Albemarle, McLean, VA is one of my series of garden paintings in McLean where I am from. This is a low-level impasto painting with a constant variation in color. The mood is cheerful and the surface is complex. The painting is in a silver-colored metal frame.

Clyde is very good about helping me with a stir fry meal I like to make.  I am not much of a cook but this is one meal I make that I really like!  I was extremely tired last night and when he asked me which pot I was going to use to par boil the broccoli and snow peas, I said the big round one. 

I cracked up but he was not amused.  I wonder if there are any other shaped pots.

Great Day to Paint!

Actually, every day is a great day to paint!  I am so glad I am an artist.  It isn't easy and requires a lot of discipline but it really is the road less traveled by and it has made all the difference!
