I think it is time to step away from the computer again.  My left eye is red and I guess it is from too much computer screen.  It doesn't hurt but it looks awful.  I put eye drops and hope it gets better soon.  I will try to get everything done soon and get off.  Cheers!

I saw something on Facebook that must be a joke.   An African American is holding up a sign that says, Mothers should not have to worry that their sons will be killed every time they rob a bank.  The person holding the sign is not smiling and looks quite serious.  Clyde says it is a joke.  I guess I am foolish to think that it might not be a joke but nothing surprises me.

I fight with my computer all the time.  I have mentioned many times that it hates me but I am determined to get things done in spite of this helpful but irritating machine.

I now have artwork on the popular site Wanelo.  I have made a number of mistakes in my listings so I use the trash button to eliminate them.  They are not on my page but if I put my name in the search they are still there.  In the help section that question is not there.  I guess I will have to contact them.  Hope I can figure it out on my own.

Regardless, I am working real hard so I can get to the lake this afternoon!  That will put a smile on my face!

I am amazed at the number of phobias that are listed on the internet.  Since it is the internet I can't be sure they are true but they are there.  Fear of sitting and fear of mirrors are the two that fascinate me the most.  They have fancy names but I don't want to look them up right now.

Anyway, Clyde and I were discussing them on our walk yesterday and he came up with a great one.  Smackaphobia- fear of being smacked by someone.  That definitely should be added to the list!

 The Eye of The Squirrel is an intense, expressive painting from my series Kendall Expressions. My work has always had Expressionistic elements combined with Impressionistic elements. In these works I am emphasizing my expressive side. I am very pleased with the look in the squirrel's eye and how the animal seems to sink into an other worldly space.

I can't believe that I forgot that Line Dancing was cancelled Tuesday  night.  It is a half hour drive to Pulaski and I made that trip for nothing.  Clyde said that must have been a short class. 

I hang appointment notices from the kitchen doorway and mark all over the calender.  I try to read as much Spanish as I have time for on the internet and still can't find my glasses or remember some important things said to me like class cancellation.

I guess I will just have to keep remembering the saying on Facebook that it isn't age that is causing memory problems, it is just that I have so much information over the years that I can't keep track of it all.

Blue Ridge Parkway Artist

My artwork takes me in many directions.  This June there will be an article on me in The Inflectionist which is an online magazine that is hard copy twice a year.  Most of my work consists of oil paintings about The Blue Ridge Mountains but I also work in many other mediums, styles, and subjects.

Here is one of my favorite lithographs.  The girl has an especially pensive, beautiful look on her face and the light models the right side of the form and then the girl seems to flatten out into a mystical space.

The second one has been hand colored for an expressive effect.  Most lithographs are hand colored due to the difficulties in printing them in color.

Scammers to the right of me.  Scammers to the left of me.  Well, actually they are right in front of me on the internet and talking to me on my answering machine.

I asked Clyde to work on one of them for me.  I keep getting a call about a mandatory credit card authorization or something like that.  I get that message almost every day so I asked Clyde to ask people at work if there was anything to this call.  I am not calling them back for fear of some kind of sneaky scam.

The other one I am getting practically every day is laughable.  Good looking guys that are in the military and want to get to know me.  I look like an angel and they are captivated by my smile.   They want to captivate my bank account!

Yesterday's scam was especially funny.  Two Google+ requests from two different guys in the military but the picture is the same.  One is further back so I guess the scammer will think the picture they stole will look like a different person.  Two scams for the theft of one picture. What a hoot!

I am pleased that more and more of my prints are being bought by the public!  My main medium is oil paint but I am extremely versatile and even have a photography folder that I am very proud of.

Life with the Bird and Word Man

Yesterday my husband, Clyde Kessler, found out he published  "Fiddling in a January Thaw" in Contemporary Haibun Online.  It will be published sometime in March.      This is the ninth poem he has published in this magazine.  Yeah Word Man!

Nothing funny out of his mouth today.  Maybe tomorrow!                                 .

Rock Castle Gorge

If I had to pick a favorite locale on the great Blue Ridge Parkway it would be Rock Castle Gorge.  I have done many paintings of this area and my husband has spent so much of his time there that I told him he should have a mail box on Rocky Knob.

Many years ago the chestnut was the basis of the economy in Rock Castle Gorge but a chestnut blight in 1914 ravaged the trees in the United States and by 1919 the American chestnut trees died out in the Rock Castle Community.

At one time there were 30 families but by 1930 there were only 10.

The Blue Ridge Parkway was created through President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Those living in the Rock Castle community had to sell their homes. 

Young men from the community found a steady paycheck working for the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC) helping to construct the parkway.

Some of my husband's ancestors lived in Rock Castle Gorge before the establishment of the parkway.

Every fall he leads Hawk Migration studies and has spent countless hours studying birds and butterflies there.
