Life with The Bird and Word Man - Clyde Kessler

I am pretty sure I have mentioned this before but I have something else to say about it.  There is an actual disorder that is a fear of sitting.

 

When someone fears sitting, they may actually have anxieties about being trapped, or being unable to sit still. The fear of sitting is known as Cathisophobia

 

I think I may have Cathisophobia but my fear is different.  My Dad was always telling me to get off my butt and get to work!  He is no longer with us and we miss him greatly but I will always hear him saying that.  I think my fear of sitting is that if I don't get off my butt it will be kicked into the middle of next week!   LOL!

Clyde grew up on a farm so he knows all about getting off his butt!

Line Dancing was great last night!  I finally got the hang of one that is rather difficult - at least difficult for me.  We had a good sized class and Tuesday the 25th we will be performing at the Train Station in Pulaski, VA!  Come on out!  We always have one easy dance we invite the audience to try with us!  Lots of fun and The Farmers Market has great stuff there!

Pleased to sell a print of Isle of Palms Sunset to a great Minnesota patron!  Love the shore and wish I could visit more often.  South Carolina has gorgeous beaches!

The other night we were talking about whales.  I have always been fascinated by the shore and marine life.  One of my favorite films is Blue Water White Death which was a documentary on the great white shark.

I said to Clyde that I saw a whale once off the Delaware coast when I was eighteen.  He said that was nothing, he would be seeing one in a few minutes.  He was about to take a shower.  Okay so he isn't as skinny as when we were first married but he is certainly isn't whale size.  LOL!

When Clyde got home today I had to tell him about the TV court case that made me say, "Wow!"  I spend most of my time on the computer or in the studio but I take breaks and when I do sometimes I like to look at one of those court room shows.  I could not believe the one I say yesterday.  It is so hard to believe anyone would allow that kind of story about themselves to be on TV.  I guess the litigants get paid quite a bit to appear.

Anyway, it seems a girl was suing a one night stand guy for causing a fire in her home that totaled around $1400 worth of damages.  Get this. They were out dancing when she invited him home.  She lit candles for a romantic atmosphere.  He thought she was a well endowed girl and when she took her clothes off and he could see she had been wearing a padded bra he ran out of the house, accidentally knocking over a candle that caused the fire.

Wow, now that is one shallow guy and he appeared on TV to let the world know his character.  Wonder if he will get a date anytime soon.

Beautiful view of Radford Virginia's popular park!

Today I came across a very interesting ghost story written by "an old man" according to the writer.  It is intriguing to me that the author has a theory that perhaps we see these things when we are young and more perceptive to what is around us. He has not had a supernatural experience since this story.

As I have mentioned before, I am a skeptical person but I have had four strange events in my life that I cannot explain.  Interestingly enough, the latest one was a few months ago and I am not young by most people's estimation of what young is.

Lunch Bucket Man

The writer's story happened when he was a student.  He was traveling home to Roanoke via Rt. 81 via Wildwood Road.  Supposedly the Wildwood Inn has quite a spooky reputation. The Inn was closed and he was pretty much the only car on the road.

As he approached the ramp to Wildwood Road he saw a tall thin man holding a lunch bucket, not a pail, but a bucket.  The writer said he had seen that type of bucket carried by coal miners.  When the car lights passed over the man there was no shadow. 

He didn't move or change expression.

He seemed to vanish and the writer tried hard to figure out what had happened but could not come up with a logical explanation.  He has not had a similar experience.  This was in the early 1980's.

The Mount Rogers 40th Naturalist Rally is tomorrow!  I wanted to be sure to alert everyone again to this great event!

The 40th Annual Mount Rogers Naturalist Rally

This BRDC signature event highlights the crown jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Southwest Virginia.  The Mount Rogers area, which includes Virginia's three tallest peaks, has long fascinated scholars and explorers.  Not only is there a wide variation in altitude, there are many different ecosystems and mini-ecosystems within a short drive or hike of each other.

The 2014 Rally will be May 9 & 10.

An Introduction to Native Bees and Other “Beneficial” Arthropods of the Mid-Atlantic - learn about common native bees we can support by protecting and planting pollinator habitat. Sold Another Print of Reaching Out and New National Holiday!

Just sold another print of "Reaching Out" to a great patron in Universal City, CA.  This is now my number one best seller.  "A Break in the Clouds" is second.

I am pleased to add the last of my three new large paintings.  I love the shore and wish I were there right now.  This painting was based on a morning photograph I took under unusual atmospheric conditions that I enhanced in the painting.  This painting is a celebration of color and brushwork that has a mesmerizing quality about it.  The light is moving in and out of a hazy morning and the warm/cool color relationships are like jewels shimmering on the surface. The painting has a visual energy that seems to burn from with-in.  As I mentioned before I have been told by many artists and patrons that my work is like that of Van Gogh's work because of the burning intensity in the colors.  I do greatly admire the effect he got with his impasto layers.  It is stunning.

There are so many political campaign commercials on right now that it is becoming extremely tedious.  My husband and I are so tired of them.  We can hardly get to the mute button fast enough.  We have decided that this country can add another Holiday and call it National Hot Air Day.  It can be celebrated with fog horns the day before the election and the day after.

Out of the three large paintings I just completed, "Isle of Palms Sunset" is my favorite.  More than ever before I have brought nature indoors.  This is an extremely intense vista of the canal side of the beach where the water was lit up with the sunset.  My exuberance is in every brushstroke and every color nuance.

Lately on TV there is an advertisement for some sort of mesh to attach to doors so people won't let the bugs in while they go in and out of the house.  It is done with magnets and the manufacturers proudly show a small dog going through the mesh and then it closes back.  My husband said if a puny little dog can open that mesh then I bet three mosquitoes could hold it open while a whole hoard flew in the house.  Don't think so but he sure did paint a funny picture for me with those words.  Who is the artist in this family anyway?  Writers sure can do amazing things with words.

Bringing the Shore Inside and The Mute Button

As I have mentioned before I have spent a lot of time at the beach and I am mesmerized by the ocean and the beautiful shore atmosphere.  Two of the paintings I am working on are shore scenes from the Isle of Palms.  One of them is the shore and the other is of the canal area that circles around to the sea.  I am pleased with both of them but the one with the shore holds my attention the most.  I feel like I brought the ocean into my home and I just want to walk into the picture.  I guess that is why I am a representational artist.  I love nature and I want it in my house and eventually placed in other homes.  I am in nineteen states, Washington D.C., Canada, Germany, and Australia.  I want to greatly increase the number of locales where people can feel what I feel. Hopefully, next week I will be posting these new paintings.

There is a commercial on TV that has been running forever regarding back problems.  I ruptured a disc when my son was two so I know how painful a back injury can be.  A back problem is nothing unless you have one.  This commercial has been shown so many times it has become quite aggravating.  The first line is I have so much trouble getting out of bed in the morning.  When my husband hears that he says I have so much trouble getting to the mute button fast enough!  So glad there is a mute button.  It is my favorite button on the remote.
