Painting is such a weird process. One minute you think a painting is coming along and will be done soon and then the painting starts talking to you and asks you about your current approach to it. I hate, hate, hate wasting paint and sometimes I hold back on my loaded paintings because of the cost of paint. The second stage has a strong impasto surface but I thought I still needed one more layer which I started a few days ago but now I am working in areas because I don't think I need to cover everything again.
Some areas are truly done and I don't want to mess them up. The third layer is always the hardest and I'll best most people reading this have no idea as to what I am talking about. Oh well, I know there are other artists that understand. Love what I do but it is not easy. I still have both ears. I refuse to let it drive me nuts although I think Van Gogh would have had mental problems despite his profession. It ran in his family.

Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler
The Bird Man is out doing his thing with our son. Last night he saw over 200 hawks from our back yard as some neighbor kids made fun of him and teased a dog. Clyde has endured insults about bird watching his whole life so the rude comments he receives just roll off his back. The time someone reported him because they thought he may have been a terrorist was not something he could ignore.
I admire his naturalist efforts and have learned a lot from him about our fragile environment. I am too antsy to spend all the hours he does studying birds but I think it is great and I am extremely impressed that he has uploaded over 20,000 sightings to ebird at Cornell University. I don't think ignorance is bliss but I do think a lot of Americans think it is. We need to shape up.
