Very excited about my new figure painting in acrylics! I am using more layers than I usually use in each stage so I can properly build up the figure's form. As I told my students, ad nauseam, anyone can draw a figure. To get it right is the mark of an artist.
Most people don't realize how much time artists spend learning the human form in drawing classes. It is quite a discipline as we go through mountains of newsprint to get it right. Since I am using more layers I am learning some things about acrylics I didn't know before this painting.
Oils is my main medium and I am usually more spontaneous with acrylics. Should be interesting to see how this one turns out!

The other day someone was talking on TV about how home doesn't have to be one place. There can be many places that people can call home.
I brought up the saying I had always heard.
Home is where you hang your hat.
Clyde said home is where you can still unlock the door because the lock hasn't been changed.
Well, I don't think I will change the lock on him.
At least I don't think I will. Probably not today.

I am back to the figure which is a particular love for artists. We don't draw and paint nudes to be provocative. We just love the beauty of the human form and all the expressions that different poses give us.
I am working on an expressive painting of a woman's back as she is turning slightly to her right. There will be many layers as I build up the form and add colorful brushwork.
I was pleased with the first stage so I added it to my portfolio for prints. Here it is!

Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler
I am still going to Yoga twice a week and I have a short practice at home the days I don't have Yoga. Yoga does fantastic things for the body and I still hate it. I want Clyde to take it when his schedule allows him to so I should keep my mouth shut about how I hate it.
Anyway, yesterday I told him one of the teacher always suggests some alternative moves to the ones she is demonstrating and she says whatever feels good.
Well, there are stairs over there and the front door at the end of them. I think it would feel real good to walk down those stairs and go right out that door. Of course, I keep my mouth shut in class. I just keep forgetting to keep my mouth shut at home.
Don't misunderstand. Yoga is a great way to keep the body going and I will keep at it. I don't have to like it.

I am very concerned about our environmental problems. I don't think ocean's temperature is rising or the polar ice caps are melting because it is just time for that to happen. I think we contribute to this problem with the amount of carbon dioxide we are pumping into the air. I realize there are many people that think climate change is a hoax but I don't agree.
I am also concerned about all the plastic materials that are not being recycled and ending up in the ocean. Yesterday I saw a post about the use of recycled plastic in roads in India and I was so pleased to see that. I shared the information and someone said it was a bad idea. The person said it was a environmental microplastic generator. I don't get into debates on Facebook but I do look up issues to see what is a reasonable conclusion. I found many articles that support the use of plastic for roads. These articles carefully back up their position so I think the announcement about these roads is a good one.
There are those that think the heating of the plastic can cause problems. Here is a section of an article that explains how that is not the case.
To environmentalists who believe that the technology could be harmful because of toxic fumes from plastic residue, Dr Vasudevan points out that the plastic used is softened at 170C. “Plastic decomposes to release toxic fumes only if it is heated at temperatures above 270C (518F). So there is no question of toxic gases being released,” he says. Since plastic coats the stone and interacts with the hot bitumen, it’s properties change and it doesn’t break down when exposed to light and heat.

I don't have much to say about anything going on in the world. I am encouraged by some events and discouraged by others. I guess Dickens first line in Tale of Two Cities will always apply to this planet. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the epic of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way– in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
I am, like many, a big Dickens fan and I have been fascinated by the sources for his novels. They are mostly about specific events in his life. Every one knows that David Copperfield is based on much of his life but I'll bet not many people know that the character Estella from Great Expectations had her origin in the young actress Dickens left his wife for. The character Tiny Tim was based on one of his girls that died when she was very young. His father spent time in a Debtor's prison like the father of the main character in Little Dorrit. There are many more examples. He wisely drew from his own life and created some of the most memorable and fascinating characters in literature.

When I was young there were two things young guys did not do to their hair. They did not shave their head when they experienced hair loss and they did not dye their hair a different color. Yes, they let it grow which really shook up the previous generation but that was it.
Times have certainly changed. Now most guys have short hair but there are plenty that don't and they have no problem with changing the color. The famous violinist David Garrett is really a brunette but he dyes his hair blonde.
I don't have any problem with hair dye or long hair but I really have a problem with shaved heads. I don't know why but I prefer to see some hair. Anyway, Clyde still has plenty of hair and I told him that I would hate it if he shaved his head if he started to go bald.
He pulled his beard. Does it look like I am going to use a razor any time soon?
I don't think I will be seeing a shiny Clyde chrome dome in the future.
