I have been so concerned about the upcoming election that it has been difficult to concentrate on my latest painting. It is coming along very well in spite of all the distractions that keep plaguing my mind. There is so much false information on the internet. I hope people take the time to fact check what they see on Facebook and other sites that have political posts.
I don't know if I have mentioned this before but it bears repeating. Whenever I hear a politician bragging about success, democrat or republican, I go to sites that I am almost positive are accurate and check out the issue over time. For example, progress in job growth can be ascertained over the years at the Department of Labor.
There are many sources for stats on the current pandemic. One man on Facebook was comparing the current pandemic deaths in the US to the Swine Flu 2009 deaths. He said there were 60 million swine flu deaths and under 6 million Covid-19 deaths so far. If you look up the Swine Flu stats you will see a number of sources that claim there were around 10,000 deaths.
We need to be vigilant to get the truth as much as possible.

In order to promote my artwork I spend a lot of time on the internet so I am always seeing news that I have strong opinions about. I don't want to offend anyone and tell them how they should think about these things but there are some that I think everyone should take seriously regardless of their political affiliation. The one I am most concerned about is the changes in the postal service. Sorting machines should not have been taken out of post offices and mail boxes should not have been carted away. The postmaster says no more of that will occur so that it is not a problem with the election.
THEN WHY HAVEN'T THEY BEEN PUT BACK?
No more needs to be said. We will be voting in person at the registrar as soon as it is possible to vote there for this election. If you want to be sure your vote counts look into how it can be done early without standing in line and without delay due to the volume the post office will handle.
Back to my artwork. My latest floral is coming along well with a certain sparkle that I wasn't really trying to achieve. It is always an adventure as I balance between control and accident!

I have high hopes for my latest floral. It is a cultivated flower garden and I am pleased with the spacing and the value pattern. Now to get to the hard part. The expression that I can't explain is always the most important part of the painting for me. It will be an intricate system of warm and cool colors but it is difficult to get the intricacy that I want and still have a strong surface quality.
Yeah, I bet anyone reading this knows exactly what I am talking about. I hardly know myself what I am talking about. Oh well, time to get to the journey. I can't paint tomorrow due to schedule problems and that is always a problem for me.
I was listening to Dr. Fauci regarding safe practices during this epidemic and learned something I didn't know. A person' blood type plays a minimal role in regards to the infection. Type A people are slightly more susceptible to Covid-19 but he said there was very little difference between blood types regarding this virus. Good to know since I have A negative.

I think my latest painting is going to be quite a different experience. I did decide on a creative version of a cultivated floral garden but I am not sure which direction I want to take it in. I always prefer to elaborate on what is in front of me to express something of myself I can't explain but this time I may go more into a fantasy version.
I pretty much have the spacing worked out so now I get to separating out the values and determining the color expression that will work well. Always an intense experience that usually gets to some arm wrestling. The last one was a lot of work but each stage seemed to come along without any hair pulling.
We will see this time. I think there is going to be big time arm wrestling, but I hope not.
Looking forward to working on it tomorrow no matter what happens.

Well, I finally decided on my next oil painting and started on it yesterday. I am going to paint a creative interpretation of a flower garden. I was thinking of another wildflower painting but changed my mind. I am working from a photograph that I took of part of a flower garden and will greatly change it.
The photograph will mostly provide some ot the spacing and the types of flowers but I will provide my own expression and may even change the colors of the flowers. I wish I could explain what I do but I can't and it really doesn't matter that much.
It will be a creation of my own making based on something I saw that will work well with my intentions. It is always a journey from start to end no matter what direction I take.

I think I have mentioned before that when I was young I decided the best way to avoid having an alcohol problem was to not drink at all. You can't miss something you never had.
I don't say this to brag at all. I am just really into logic and I saw several of my Dad's friends with a raging alcohol problem and I didn't want to make life more difficult than it already is. My Dad did not drink at all.
There is nothing wrong with it, I would rather just leave it alone and Clyde also has left it alone but his reason was much more personal.
Anyway, we two teetotalers got a big kick out of a funnie we saw on an old movie the other day. One man was drinking and the other was not.
The one that was not drinking said, "I don't think drinking drowns problems. It just teaches them to swim."

I am having a hard time deciding which direction to go with my next painting. I was thinking of a cultivated flower garden but now I still have some ideas for a creative wildflower painting. Flower gardens are beautiful but I prefer the interaction of wildflowers and I am not surprised that Natural Rhythm is my most popular floral.
I am always amazed at the beautiful designs found in creeks. It is like an artist that has studied design for decades placed everything in a perfect composition. Sometimes I arrange things differently from what I see for a strong effect which is what artistic license is all about. It is always an arrangement regardless of the initial inspiration.
My last floral was mostly made up based on systems of wildflowers I have seen. I place the flowers in patterns that I have found in many natural arrangements. Anyway, I hope to get past my hesitations soon and get started.
I was out of gesso but it arrived a few days ago so I have primed the board. I can't believe how different the gesso is. It looks like whipped cream. I guess there is a change in how it is made these days.
Time to step away from the disheartening news regarding the pandemic. I am discouraged by all the hype that it is a hoax to interfere with the upcoming presidential election. I hope people do not fall for that. This virus is nothing like the flu. Don't fall for the line that it is not a devastating illness. It is. Stay safe!

Well, I did something today that I have not done in many years. I got out my pen and ink supplies and finished a pen and ink drawing I started a long time ago. I am anxious to get back to my oil painting work but I have a number of old pieces that I have been meaning to complete. That was quite an experience. I demonstrated part of the work on my latest Youtube and was so surprised the ink didn't run down my hand.
Pen and ink drawings are done sitting down but my Youtube set-up is vertical. I decided to give it a try and didn't have any problems. I'll never forget demonstrating pen and ink in my Hands on Art Appreciation class years ago. I didn't have the great computer set-up that came later so I taped a piece of paper on the black board and demonstrated that way. Of course, the ink ran down my arm which is embarrassing in front of fifty people.
I actually had fifty students at a time try pen and ink with ink wells on their desk. When someone accidentally dumped the ink well all over the desk and floor I realized I should give them tape to secure the well. Much to my surprise there would always be at least one student that would knock the well off even though it was taped down. So I wisely switched to a fine point sharpee and had them buy them, too.
Teaching can be quite an adventure, especially for people like me that try unusual approaches in a lecture room. Anyway, I don't have the finished drawing uploaded to my portfolio yet but I have included another one of my pen and ink drawings below. Check it out!

Clyde and I got a laugh out of the response to a joke I shared on Facebook. As I have mentioned before I do two things to keep my weight down and I got Clyde to do the same thing. We eat a balanced diet and we count calories. I saw such a cute joke with Miss Piggy about junk food that I had to share it.
I have an eating disorder. I am about to eat dis order of fries, dis order of wings, and dis order of nuggets.
