Working away at my latest painting and will have it up soon!  Just a few more touches. 

Looking forward to starting another atmospheric Blue Ridge painting.  I like to paint in many different directions but the mountains of Southwest Virginia and the Blue Ridge are my favorite selections for subject matter and the hardest paintings I do. 

The interaction of warm and cool colors is so difficult to achieve without them blending to grey but I have learned so much about how to get that effect so it is more and more a pleasing experience.

So happy with my latest painting!  Now is the hard part. Do I work in a few areas that are not quite what I wanted or do I go all out with another layer for even more complexity?  Always a touch decision and I need to get another idea for my Youtube series.

So busy!  I may stop blogging so much as I work on other avenues of exposure. Not sure about that yet but I need to carve out more time in the day.

Not much to say except we are very excited about the house we may be moving into this summer!  Artist and writers need a lot of space that we don't have right now.  The house we are looking at will be perfect for us!  Now we need to get busy and fix up the one we have. 

Not looking forward to that but it has to be done.  I think my painting time is going to shrink even more than now. Ouch!  Oh well, I think I can get going with my latest one tomorrow.  First stage is done and now to get to the second, hopefully without cussing.  I never know. 

Anyway, please check out my latest youtube above. This time I was planning on an abstract but when it was done I thought some birds would make for great accents. I like the way it turned out!

Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler

This one is from my last Youtube but I thought I would leave it up for anyone that did not see it. I love to laugh!

Clyde and I snack a lot, especially after supper.  Last night I couldn't decide what I wanted. 

I like to complain about these things to Clyde because he usually has a goofy answer for me and, as usual, he did not disappoint. 

 

I can't decide.  I have carrot cake, brownies, and cookies. 

Eat all of them.

All of them? You mean I should smash the brownie into the carrot cake and put a cookie on top?

Sure, but on top of that, add some raisins and call it a healthy snack. 

Yeah, right. I think my scale will disagree with you if I have that kind of healthy snack. 

I think I will get some popcorn - no butter.

I started a new lake painting today and it was quite a different experience. I don't know if this pandemic has me down or I just wanted to try a different approach to the first layer, but it really is wild.  I am hoping to get a more complicated system in color with this one from the start and it really is colorful right now. 

It was not fun.  As I have mentioned before a lot of artists talk about the first layer as fun and then it gets difficult.  My first layer usually is fun, so this is definitely a different type of session for me. 

I will see what happens next!  Painting keeps me going.

I am very pleased with my latest painting of Claytor Lake and I am considering painting more of this great park.  This is only the second painting I have done of one my favorite places in Southwest Virginia.  This one is so close to exactly what I was after which is a nice experience, but I do have plans for a slightly different approach to my next one.  Always learning, always improving. 

As I have said over and over again it would be boring if I had a set way of painting that never changed.  My opinion.  I do think there are artists that do not change their methods and there is nothing wrong with that. 

I have to keep on progressing even though I'll bet a lot of people don't see that much difference, but I do, and it is an exciting process!
