Life with The Word and Bird Man - Clyde Kessler
Haven't
heard a funny from The Word Man lately, he is too busy trying to get to
the remote fast enough to click off people running for office and
ranting his usual rant about politics. Since he is also The Bird Man, I
like to ask him about birds when we go walking.
I
am not up on migration patterns and oftentimes I see a bird I don't
think I know and then find out from him that it is one I do know. They
sure look different from different angles and in different light.
I
did see a cute bird joke about migration on the internet. The picture
is of two birds covered in snow on a tree branch. One of them says to
the other, "I told you we should have migrated."

Glad
to back to oils and I am very happy with the first stage of my latest
Blue Ridge painting! I love oil paint the best, but I get more uptight
when I paint in this medium. A lot of painters consider watercolors to
be the most difficult painting medium. I can't agree. I consider oils
to be the most difficult, but I love it!

When
Clyde and I take walks at Wildwood Park the towhees are always yelling
"drink your tea" over and over again. It is a pretty bird call but it
can get monotonous. The other day I read in a blog that drinking tea
actually fights the bacteria in our mouths which, of course, helps with
tooth decay.
When I told Clyde that, he had a
whacko theory as to why towhees keep on telling us to drink our tea.
Maybe they once had teeth and are now telling everybody to drink their
tea or else! Now that's a weird one, even for The Bird Man!

Rain,
rain go away! We are having a monsoon right now in Radford. My Line
Dance troupe had to cancel a performance last night. I was looking
forward to that one since it is at the old train station in Pulaski and
there are vendors that I usually buy from while we are waiting to
perform. Oh well. I think most of the vendors cancelled too. We need
the rain but we don't need a weekly deluge. Hope to see the sun soon!

Sometimes
it really is the little things that are super irritating. I am trying
to compose a piano piece just for fun. I have been playing the piano
since I was twelve and it never occurred to me to write music but I
thought I would give it a try. I can't believe how slow it is going. I
have always been good at reading music but now that I am trying to
write it I can't remember all the different symbols for the notes in the
bass which is crazy, since I read them every day without any problem.
Also,
my pencil keeps breaking and our electric sharpener is jammed and the
little plastic one just keeps breaking the pencil. One of these days I
will finish my amateur attempt at composing and get it copyrighted. I'm
sure someone will want to steal it. I would put LOL but Clyde thinks
it is a nice piece of music so you never know. He has spent quite a bit
of time studying music and has written a few pieces that I like.
I saw a cute pencil joke the other day. Knock knock, Who's there? A pencil. A pencil who? Never mind. It's pointless.

Well,
my ipad has bit the dust. The store clerk said you can't replace the
battery. Once it is gone, that is the end of the ipad. That is a sorry
end for a device I paid a lot of money for and hardly ever used.
I
will try getting a different cable and see if that works but I will
probably have to get a new ipad which I doubt I will do. I will just
use a laptop when I need something in my studio. Time to get in there.
It really is a dreary Monday, so I need to work so I can cheer up.

Well,
the cat problem is almost over! Two of our neighbors wanted a kitten
and they got them before they went feral. There is one left that they
are trying to coax away from the mother. According to Clyde, they are
about the age when the mother will push them away so this works out
right for the neighbors and the cats.
Not
sure what will become of the mother. I called Animal Control but they
have not responded yet. Oh well. The kittens are so adorable that I
told Clyde I wished we could have a cat and Alan and I wouldn't have
allergic reactions and the cat would be no trouble and I wouldn't be the
one to take care of it.
I was waiting for
the "Careful what you wish for admonition", but I got a weird Clyde
response instead. Watch out for what you wish for. You may need a 42

Does
the computer baby sitting ever end? I bought a iPad years ago that I
hardly ever use and now when I need it, it won't charge. I guess I need
to get a new battery. Also, I can't use Chimera on my phone. The site
claims I have too much on my phone but I need all the Apps I have.
I
guess I need to eliminate images but does that mean they will disappear
from Instagram? I can't have that. Time to go on Google and ask the
almighty computer some questions.

Once
again we are having cat problems. Years ago one tried to adopt us by
trying to sneak into our house. We don't want a cat. Two of us are
allergic to cat and dog hair. This time a mother and three kittens are
lounging around in the shade on our carport.
The
mother does not have a collar and the neighbors don't know anything
about them. This will not work. Clyde said three people that don't
want cats with four cats on a carport is a miss-match made in the
shade. Time to call Animal Control.

Lots
of work to do on my new pastel portrait of Alan and Sarah! It will
take a long time but I have been wanting to do one for a long time and I
finally got a good photo of them to work from.
So I will put on
my mask and get to it like Aunt Bea said to Otis on The Andy Griffith
show when she was acting as his warden in their home! Great show!

Not
sure, but I think I have mentioned before that people have been telling
me for decades that I have lost weight. I am the same weight I was
when I got married with the same measurements so I have often wondered
why people are always saying that to me. I guess I have withered with
age.
Just wish they wouldn't say it with such a big smile. That
implies I needed to lose weight which I don't think is true. According
to the doctor's chart my weight is exactly what it should be. My BMI
is on the low end of normal.
Now Clyde is another matter. He is
trying to lose some weight to take the pressure off the knee that was
injured. He is losing about a pound a week which is fast enough.
Anyway, he recently received a comment on his weight loss that I have
never heard before. A friend said his clothes are growing on him.
Love it!

I
am real excited about starting a soft pastel portrait! It has been a
long time since I worked in pastels. They are a mess but I don't have
to clean brushes or a palette after each session which is great! I
started today without a mask but will put one on the next time. That
stuff gets in the air and practically asphyxiates me. You have to
really love Art to put up with all the problems. I certainly do!

As
I have mentioned a number of times before, we are not at all happy with
the digital TV takeover that forced us to get cable or never see PBS
again. We are not about to pay for cable for all three sets, so the TV
in our bedroom has a mind of its own and sometimes has a signal but
oftentimes does not have a signal and no stations come in. We have been
told various ridiculous things regarding the lack of signal.
My
favorite is the amount of leaves on the trees affects the reception.
Lots of leaves right now so nothing comes in most of the time. Clyde
has another theory. When a chicken clucks in China, our TV won't come
in. Lots of clucking right now.
I contacted a company in China
today that keeps on stealing my images and selling prints of them. I
had lawyers try to get compensation for me but they were not able to do
anything about it in spite of the US office the company has. I didn't
mention clucking chickens to them. Just wish they would stop stealing
my paintings.

So
glad Zippy the Wonder Mouse is working again! Clyde said it may just
need a new battery. That was it. I guess that is why it was zooming all
over the screen in places I was not pointing to. It was looking for
something to eat.
I know that is ridiculous, but with all my
computer adventures it is hard not to think of it as a living creature
determined to irritate me within an inch of my sanity.
Oh well,
one computer problem at a time. I do believe in evil spirits in the
kitchen. I now have proof. I placed the one grocery bag with the eggs
and light bulbs on the table where there was plenty of room. When I got
back with another bag, it was on the floor with a broken bulb.
Now you know that was some sort of Irritation Demon determined to ruin my day. LOL!

day got shot out of a rocket! So much to do, so little time. I am
glad to get back to this blog. I prefer to publish them in the morning
but there was no way that was going to happen. Time to finish this and
then get to other stuff, including some relaxing.

As
I have mentioned before I have switched to organic food for the most
part. It won't keep us from dying but I think our chances of getting
cancer from pesticides is greatly reduced. Not afraid to die.
Terrified of cancer treatment. Anyway, I bought an ice cream and yogurt
machine because I can't find organic frozen yogurt in the store.
There
are great selections for organic ice cream but none for frozen yogurt.
Since I make our bread now, I didn't really want to do this but I
thought I would give it a try. These devices are great but there is
still a lot of work involved, especially with the yogurt maker.
The
yogurt has to soak for 2-4 hours on a cloth and then ingredients have
to be cooked on a stove and frozen over night. The machine just kind of
shakes it around and then, of course, there is clean up. Anyway, most
of the ice cream selections are twice the number of calories of what is
in the store.
I tried the lowfat strawberry yogurt and am not
happy at all. I guess it has to be eaten right after it is made. I
froze it and now it takes a chisel to get it out of the container.
Yuck! The fruit is crunchy with ice and I don't like the taste at all. I
have to leave it out for a full hour before it is soft enough to get
out of the box. Can't heat it up.
Clyde said I should put it on a rack and buy a bunsen burner.
Ha ha. I think I will take my chances with store bought frozen yogurt , smart alec.
There
is a great joke on the internet about cultured bacteria. The two
bacteria are discussing different operas and which one is the best.
